Horrors! 4th of July BBQ costs highest ever!

Good day all. Tomorrow is the 4^th of July, also known in America as Independence Day. 238 years ago, the 13 Colonies declared their independence from England. Today, we celebrate that day with parades, fireworks, picnics and barbeques.

However, there is a problem this year. Costs for BBQ staples such as beef, pork, ice cream and other necessities have gone through the roof this year. (I’m not even going to mention gas prices) Here are the details of this horrifying news from Bloomberg:

Rising prices for beef, ice cream and lettuce mean Americans will spend the most ever for Fourth of July barbecues this year. The CHART OF THE DAY shows an index tracking U.S. retail prices for seven foods commonly consumed while grilling climbed 5.1 percent in May from a year earlier to the highest ever for the month, the latest data from Bureau of Labor Statistics show.

Independence Day is the most popular time of the year for Americans to cook outdoors, according to the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association. The holiday falls on a Friday this year, increasing chances that revelers will keep celebrating into the weekend. Prices for ground beef are 16 percent higher than a year earlier, while ice cream climbed 1.7 percent and tomatoes soared 12 percent, government data show.

Now there are many reasons for these escalating prices. As mentioned above, fuel costs are over the top and that means that the costs of raising and delivering products is also up. Then there is the costs to ranchers who raise our steaks and hamburgers. Thanks to the EPA, farmers are growing crops to convert into Ethanol rather then growing crops that can be fed to herds of Steaks and Hamburgers. (Also known as cattle)

Consumers “are becoming adjusted to these price levels,” said Don Close, a vice president for animal protein at Rabobank Food and Agriculture Research and Advisory in St. Louis. “I would expect the overall grilling demand to be very good. The natural long weekend will be a benefit.”

I seriously doubt that consumers are getting used to these costs. I know I’m not. People gotta eat though and they will spend the money for the 4^th of July BBQ’s and parties. They just won’t spend that money later on.

The Bloomberg-compiled barbecue index tracks ground beef, white bread, American cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, ice cream and potato chips. Ground-beef prices are at a record amid a shrinking U.S. cattle herd. Drought in California has boosted produce costs.

You can add to the drought the utter stupidity of California politicians and bureaucrats, along with a couple of judges. Thanks to the Politically Correct Moonbats, water that should be going to take care of farms is instead going right into the ocean because a some stupid fish ((California’s Man-Made Drought)).

So, as you take a bite of your overpriced BBQ’d burgers, steaks and ribs, thank those who made this all possible. Barack Obama, the Environmentalists and the Progressive Liberal Fascist Democrats. And for those of us on the East coast, enjoy the hurricane. I’m sure some moron will claim it was caused by all the BBQ grills running and demand the EPA ban them. Then we can all enjoy healthy, politically correct meals as ordered by Michelle Obama.
