Good day all. I say this video last night and thought it was probably one of the better uses of a drone we’ve seen of late. Someone decided to fly a drone with a HiDef camera through a fireworks display. Here is the video for your enjoyment.

Now that was really cool, but why do I keep hearing the phrase “The Flak is thick enough to walk on!” running through my head? I have no doubt others will want to do the same thing now, but please remember, for all intents and purposes, you are flying a drone through what amounts to an Anti-Aircraft artillery barrage. I think that drone was hit at least once, and a direct hit from one of the larger shells would blow it to pieces. (Not to mention upset the fireworks people launching the display)
If you think this might be a good idea, check with the people launching the rockets first. They very carefully design these displays for the audience and more importantly, they design them for safety. If someone flies a drone into their display and causes a shell to deflect and someone gets hurt? Well, they will go after the owner of that drone.
You might think it’s a good idea, but check first and don’t be surprised if they say no. If you are polite, have a willingness to work with the ground crew and will listen, they might say yes.
