Scott Walker kicks unions in the nuts…again

Good day all. A few days ago, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker took another poke at unions. He signed a bill making Wisconsin a Right to Work state.

In a nutshell, this means that you can’t be forced to join a union, or pay what are called “Agency Fees” in order to get a job. Obviously, there are a great many more details then this, so, here they are from Fox News:

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker signed a right-to-work bill into law Monday, striking another blow against organized labor four years after the state effectively ended collective bargaining for public-sector workers.

Walker, a likely presidential candidate fresh on a weekend visit to Iowa, signed the bill affecting private-sector employees at an invitation-only ceremony at Badger Meter north of Milwaukee. The company’s president was one of the few business owners who publicly supported the measure, which rocketed through the Legislature in less than two weeks.

Two weeks? Is that all? I would have thought this would be yet another knock down, drag out fight between the unions, Democrats and normal working people. I am pleasantly surprised. Of course, the unions and a few really stupid businesses weren’t happy about this.

A coalition of more than 400 businesses formed to oppose the bill and upward of 3,000 union members and others gathered at the Capitol in a failed attempt to block its passage.

I suspect the businesses had a nice cozy arrangement with the unions that pretty much crushed any worries about competition. It’s already having a positive effect on the economy in Wisconsin.

Badger Meter’s chief executive and chairman Rich Meeusen said because of the law the company will place a $2.5 million piece of new water control equipment at the Brown Deer facility and that will lead to 30 to 50 new manufacturing jobs in the state.

The new law, which takes effect immediately, makes Wisconsin the 25th right-to-work state and the first to do it since Michigan and Indiana in 2012. Mark Mix, president of the National Right to Work Committee, said the action now puts pressure on other Midwest states to follow suit.

Not just other Midwest states. Now the pressure will be on the hard left blue states like New York, California and Maryland. They have been hemorrhaging jobs and losing businesses for decades to states that have more worker and business friendly environments.

“Every worker deserves freedom of choice when it comes to union membership and dues payment, and if states like Michigan and Wisconsin can pass Right to Work then Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri and Ohio can too,” Mix said in a statement.

I wouldn’t hold my breath though on Illinois. The rot in that state is so deep that it’s going to take a major event to clean them out. Don’t forget, this was a state that ordered people to join the SEIU or lose the money they were getting to take care of sick and disabled family members. Of course, they have a new Republican governor, for whatever that’s worth.

Scott Walker is probably going to run for President. I haven’t really looked into him as yet, and there are a few things I’ve read that I want explained before I support him. He does have several advantages though. The Democrats hate him, the Unions hate him and he isn’t from the Washington beltway environment. If he does run, and wins, he can really shake things up by revoking the collective bargaining and unionization rules that have been in place on the federal level since the 1960’s, and if I understand it correctly, he wont’ even need congress to do it. Those rules were put in place under an executive order signed by John Kennedy as payback for the union’s helping him. Now that would be a popcorn moment.
