Hello all, this is the Angry Systems Administrator. The Blithering Idiot Angry Webmaster announced on the main site that I would update you on the back end issues we’re seeing here.
Things have been odd for about 10 days now. It looks like the non-Disqus comments aren’t working correctly. Also, our internal link checker has malfunctioned rather badly. I hasn’t reported a bad link in a week and looks as if it’s hung up in some way.
Also, the delayed posting feature in WordPress, a tool that both the Jerk Angry Webmaster and I use all the time has failed. Basically we tend to write up a number of posts and then schedule them out. This allows us to pretend to actually be posting in real time when we aren’t.
Since this isn’t working at the moment, it means that while we can write up posts ahead of time, we have to come in and publish them manually. This is why it seems that posts are coming out either very early or very late in the day. Our Real World Employment responsibilities come before the blog so we have to “Push the button” when one of us is in the office rather then at our Real World Jobs.
All these issues appear to be database related. They started about a week to 10 days ago when our hosting service did something to the server that our site is on. I’ve gone through the database, but neither the Incompetent Boob Angry Webmaster or myself are DBA’s and we don’t have one on staff.
I’m continuing to research the issues and trying different things. Obviously, I’m backing this site up extensively. I have a sneaking suspicion that the “Fix” will require a full server reboot by our hosting service. Since this is a shared server, I can’t just ask them to bounce it. We’ll continue to muddle though of course.
