New York AG wants to ignore Pardons

Good day all. Recently, we’ve seen how “Special Prosecutors” can run amuck. The current example is Robert Mueller. He’s gone far beyond his mission of looking into alleged Russian interference with the last election, and is now looking to make up charges against anyone he can.

We saw the same thing happen with the Valery Plame matter when Lewis “Scooter” Libby was railroaded for allegedly lying about who outed Plame as a CIA agent. President Bush, who should have handled this, instead walked away from Libby.

Recently, President Trump exercised his power of the Pardon and pardoned Libby. He’s also recently pardoned a former navy sailor who stupidly took pictures of classified areas on his submarine, (Which he didn’t distribute), and former Sheriff Joe Arpaio for being convicted of doing his duty.

This has started to alarm the progressives as they see that President Trump might kill all their plans to get his allies, if they can’t actually get him. This has led one of the more corrupt state attorney’s general, one Eric T. Schneiderman of New York, to change the state’s laws so he can go after people the President has pardoned. Here are some of the details from the New York Slimes:

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman of New York is moving to change New York state law so that he and other local prosecutors would have the power to bring criminal charges against aides to President Trump who have been pardoned, according to a letter Mr. Schneiderman sent to the governor and state lawmakers on Wednesday.

The move, if approved by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and the Legislature, would serve notice that the legal troubles of the president and his aides may continue without the efforts of Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel investigating possible Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Does anyone see a problem here? Traditionally, when someone receives a presidential pardon, that’s it. The recipient has been pardoned for any crimes in the United States. Granted, it’s a bit more complicated then that. I don’t believe a president can pardon crimes committed at the state level, only federal.

However, what Schneiderman and probably other State Attorneys General want to do is ignore the pardon and go after anyone they want to. In New York, this is even worse. The New York Attorney’s General have a long and sordid history of abusing their authority.

When Eliot Spitzer was the Attorney General, he went after Richard Grasso who was, at the time, the Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange. He did this, along with other cases, solely for political reasons. In the end the damage Spitzer caused helped lead to the 2008 economic meltdown. Eventually, Spitzer himself was convicted of criminal activities.

The move, if approved by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and the Legislature, would serve notice that the legal troubles of the president and his aides may continue without the efforts of Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel investigating possible Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Under the plan, Mr. Schneiderman, a Democrat, seeks to exempt New York’s double jeopardy law from cases involving presidential pardons, according to the letter, a copy of which was obtained by The New York Times. The current law and the concept of double jeopardy in general mean that a person cannot be tried for the same crime twice.

Double jeopardy is the benchmark of the legal system in the United States. Prior to the American Revolution, it was quite common for the British to retry someone who had been acquitted over and over again until they were either ruined, or they finally got the conviction they wanted.

Schneiderman and Trump have a history, and not a good one. Schneiderman hates Trump and the feeling is mutual. However, this plan goes far beyond President Trump, and needs to be stomped out quickly. If someone receives a presidential pardon, and some politically motivated State Attorney General then goes after that person for the same crime they have just been pardoned for, then what is the point of the Pardon in the first place?

The Democrats, and they are the one’s pushing this, are once again failing to see where this could lead. The Mueller Inquisition is nothing more then a politically motivated witch-hunt designed to overturn the 2016 presidential election results.

If President Trump does what the Democrats think he might do, and decide to go after people the President, current of future, has pardoned, then all bets are off. A person in such a circumstance may decide that he or she has nothing left to lose, and decide. “Well Hell, if I’m going down, I’m taking some of those scum with me!” Then you end up with a lot of dead people.

Once again, we see the Progressive Liberal Democrats moving to destroy the Constitution and use their offices to punish their enemies. Schneiderman needs to be stopped and stopped cold. The New York Legislature should rebuke him and not even bother responding to his request.
