I was reading Stop the ACLU when they posted this little gem:

Of course I followed the link provided and ended up at that fine publication, The Sun.

What is the first thing I see on the story page? See for yourself. 😉

Obviously, we can’t condone throwing perfectly good, (chortle), efficient, (snicker), automobiles into a canal….Nope, we can’t do that. It would be wrong. (HAHAHAHAHAHA)

Think about the poor little fishy’s when some eco-nut’s smugmobile lands on them.

SMART car owners have been left Smarting over a new craze — for chucking their motors into canals.

Dutch pranksters in Amsterdam have dumped dozens of the tiny two-seater cars into the city’s waterways.

Now now, I’m sure the people doing this were only trying to wash the cars for the owners in an ecologically friendly manner. Think about it. Rather then pumping water out of the canal, using valuable energy resources to do so, they simply pick it up and..KERPLUNK!

And now police fear the bizarre trend will spread to the UK and the rest of Europe.

Bizarre? I wouldn’t say that. More like a public service if you ask me. They’re just removing a potential road hazard. Have you ever seen those on the highway? I have, usually under a real car.

One victim Casper de Jong was woken by police after they found his Smart floating in the waterway outside his apartment.

“Sailing Sailing over the bounding main!!”

Oh, *ahem* excuse me. To continue:

Mr de Jong said: “Several weeks ago the same thing happened to my companion’s Smart. Both cars were a complete write-off.”

That’s what they invented insurance for my friend. May we suggest something a bit more manly? Such as:

Yeah, we aren’t thrilled with the color either, but the accessories more then make up for that!

Anyway, back to the story:

One Smart sales worker said: “We’re not supposed to talk about this because the police don’t want the craze to spread but we’ve had quite a few drowned cars returned to us.”

Maybe what we need is life saving training for drowning Smart cars. I, for one, have no intention of performing mouth to tailpipe resuscitation. It’s far better to just let the car slip away to the afterlife. I’m sure there is a nice car crusher that will be more then happy to begin the recycling process for these wet little death traps.
