Good day all. This is the Angry Systems Administrator. We had a rather annoying technical failure in the Anger Central Entertainment Complex. The Useless Idiot’s DVR hard drive turned into a paperweight and he demanded that I “Fix it now!”
The DVR is part of the Dish system we use, and I went through the usual diagnostics. The hard drive was toast. I contacted Dish via their chat system, and the tech on the other end logged into the DVR and confirmed that the hard drive was now a former hard drive. We arranged to ship out a new unit and for me to ship the old one back.
The estimated time for the new DVR to arrive was Saturday. (The unit croaked at some point Wednesday night Thursday morning when we discovered it malfunctioning) The unit actually arrived on Friday, and I had it up and running within an hour. I wasn’t looking forward to recreating all the custom channel lists, but it seems that at some point the Angry Blowhard actually did something right and backed up the settings.
He did lose all the saved shows however. He wasn’t to happy about that. (There was much shouting, screaming, ranting and raving, with him finally sucking his thumb and crying like a 3 year old) In this case, most of what was lost was just archived shows. There was only one that he hadn’t seen yet and I was able to download it using the On Demand feature. ((The twerp is watching it now)
I will say that Dish was very helpful and the arrival of the replacement unit ahead of the expected day was a pleasant surprise. With today’s supply problems, (Thanks to a certain maladministration), I wouldn’t have been surprised if it took a couple of weeks to get the new one out.
I’ve already shipped the dead unit back using the prepaid label and the box they sent out. They should be getting it in a couple of days. Now I can return to the peace and quiet of the Angry Data Center while the Angry Idiot binges on The Black List.
