And now, the Twitter layoffs begin

Good day all. I’ve been writing off and on about Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter. This includes the terminations, (Sadly, without extreme prejudice), of the CEO, CFO, the General Counsel and the Chief Censor. There was also the great trolling of the Mostly Stupid Media by a couple of pranksters who claimed to be Twitter employees who had just been laid off.

There was a rumor that once he took control, Elon Musk was going to lay off some 75% of the Twitter employees. This led to a bunch of the useless idiots to circulate a letter internally demanding that Musk be nice to them and honor their safe spaces. Well, it looks like the hammer is about to fall and that upward of 50% of the staff are on the chopping block. Here are the details from the Daily Wire:

New Twitter CEO Elon Musk is reportedly set to cut up to 50% of the work force at Twitter after taking over the company late this week, and layoffs are expected to begin as soon as this weekend.

The New York Times reported that Musk “ordered the cuts across the company, with some teams to be trimmed more than others,” adding that “some managers [were] being asked to draw up lists of employees to cut.”

I will be honest and say I don’t envy those managers. I’ve been through layoffs and when you know they are coming, it’s terrifying. For the managers, it’s worse because they may know a lot of the people working under them quite well. However, they also know who the “Wally’s” and other deadwood are, and those are the ones who are going to be shown the door first.

Ross Gerber, the chief executive of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Investment Management, said he was told by a top official from Musk’s team that major layoffs were coming to the workforce of 7,500 people.

I was told to expect somewhere around 50 percent of people will be laid off,” Gerber said.

That is a massive cut in head count. It will be interesting to see what types are shown the door. I have a sneaking suspicion that the bunch of precious snowflakes who circulated that letter, looking for signatures will be among the first out the door.

The layoffs are reportedly set to happen before employees were scheduled to get stock grants as part of their compensation, the report added.

I was wondering about that when I read it. Musk and his investors are taking Twitter private, so wouldn’t that mean that the stock grants would be voided? It now occurs to me that these are not options, but actual grants of company stock in lieu of salary. They might actually be vested as soon as they’re received and they can then turn around and sell them as part of the stockholders who will be bought out. If they are terminated just before they get them, I can see some potential legal issues. Well we shall see.

Musk began his new reign at the company by firing leftist CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and Vijaya Gadde, head of legal policy, trust, and safety, The Washington Post reported. The report said Musk also fired the company’s general counsel, Sean Edgett, who was escorted out of the building.

Now, as to who might be on the chopping block, I have my opinions. First, those who keep the infrastructure running are critical to needs. Also the developers and coders who clean out bugs and create improvements to the back end code and front end GUI’s. (Web and apps) Still, I see a bunch of coders being let go and told to learn to Dig Coal.

Then we have those who’s job descriptions make no sense. A lot of them are the people who censor tweets and ban people for “wrongthink”, as well as people who don’t actually seem to do anything to improve the value of the company. Well we shall see who gets the chop and what their job descriptions were in short order.

Another group that Musk may go after are those who are local to the offices but work remote. Musk has already said that he expect people to come into the offices to work. There are those who are not near offices, and if they were hired originally as remote workers, may continue to do so. Others who moved during the Panicdemic? I’ve heard that a lot of managers consider these workers to be the first ones to get rid of when/if they have to downsize.

Finally we have the class known as Precious Snowflakes. These are the ones who, instead of keeping their heads down and their mouths shut, decided it would be a good idea to blast Elon Musk. I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of those people will be on the street in the next few days. Of course, it is wrong to gloat over all the moonbats being thrown out of work.

***Postscript***

The original New York Slimes report that layoffs would begin before November 1st has been denied by Elon Musk. Basically, it looks like the Slimes was once again generating fake news for political reasons. There will be layoffs coming, but not as the Slimes describes.

Bit of an update here. The little Twitlers have filed suit to keep their fake jobs. I haven’t read all the details yet. I just saw the news on Fox as I was preparing to post this.
