Review: Captain America, the First Avenger

Greetings all, Angry Webmaster here. I just got back from seeing Captain America in 3D. Frankly I could do without the 3D, but that was the only show available.

I won’t go into the plot of the movie. If you’ve read the comic books, then you know the plot. 98Lbs weakling Steve Rodgers undergoes an experimental treatment and turns into super stud Captain America, wiper outer of Nazi’s everywhere. When I first heard about the movie, I, along with a lot of others were afraid that Hollyweird was going to trash this movie. Captain America is a flat out unapologetic patriotic American, the complete opposite of the idiots in the film industry today. Most of them would rather we were being run by the kleptocrats in the UN.

Not this film.

Captain America, the First Avenger is a rock ‘em, sock ‘em no holds barred beat the crap out of the Nazi’s pro-American movie. Now, you do have to suspend your belief in things like physics and history. The protagonist, Red Skull, has created tech that doesn’t exist now, never mind 1943. The art department did make use of variations of actual Nazi designs, but these were things that never got off the drawing board…thank God!

There is the usual love interests, the heroic actions of Captain America along with tragic loss. You can also see how the film makers are tying all the various films together. First with Iron Man, then Thor, (Which I missed in the theaters damn it!) and others to be named later. This is all to lead in to next years big movie, The Avengers.

By now you’re wondering if I liked the movie. Yes I did and I think you will as well. It’s a fun flick. It doesn’t take its self to seriously and is designed so you can just be entertained. I highly recommend it, especially after the disappointment of Green Lantern. I’ve already added this movie to my “Buy on DVD” list. 🙂

My only complaint is the 3D stuff. Since I wear glasses, putting a second pair on over my normal lenses is a pain in the ass. This is why I prefer standard 2D films. Other than that, it was good. The CGI was cool, the colors worked and the 3D wasn’t overdone. (I think the directors are finally figuring out how 3D should be used)

Until the next movie review, which I expect will be Cowboys and Aliens, have a great week and SEE THIS MOVIE!!
