Now that was a pleasant surprise in Florida. Herman Cain flat out blew past Gov. Rick Perry and Mittens Obomny in the Florida straw poll held on September 24th.
Part of this is not unexpected, but large parts are. During the debate last week, (Which I managed to miss, had to clip my nails), Gov. Perry flubbed, hemmed and hawed his presentation. He’s also turning out to be extremely week on illegal aliens. What was unexpected was this didn’t help Governor Mitt “Mittens” Romney. Perry was still able to do better than Obomney.
What appears to have happened was all Perry’s support went to Herman Cain instead. From The Washington Times:
Former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain won the Presidency 5 straw poll here Saturday, delivering a blow to Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s front-runner status and a victory for a candidate who has struggled to transform his grass-roots popularity into strong showings in national polls.
Mr. Cain did more than deliver a blow to Perry and Obomney, he smashed the Republican and Media elites upside the head with a crowbar.
“Tonight’s winner is Herman Cain,” Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced. “It shows you something: The road to the White House comes through Florida, and it pays to spend time here.”
Mr. Cain received 37 percent of the more than 2,600 votes cast.
Mr. Cain has been a hard worker his entire life and a successful business man as well. Unlike the current person infesting inhabiting the Oval Office.
From the Miami Herald:
The straw poll is a mock election and doesn’t necessarily reflect the sentiment of the voters at large. In past years, it has predicted the party’s national nominee, but that streak could be in jeopardy because even some Cain voters doubted that he could ultimately win. Still, the vote is a major indication of how badly damaged Perry was by a poor debate performance Thursday when he fumbled answers and failed to give specifics.
What I think you are seeing is people fed up with the normal way politicians try to dodge around the issues and give answers that don’t offend anyone. It shows that you will say anything to get elected. Gov. Perry isn’t bad when it comes to answering questions, but he’s made a few boneheaded decisions as governor and really needs to come out and take ownership.
Many straw poll voters were especially dissatisfied by the answers Perry gave over his moderate immigration position and his plan to inoculate girls from human papillomavirus — issues that have haunted him since the first debate weeks ago.
“I came in thinking Rick Perry,” said Tommy Langford, a Gilchrist County commissioner who voted for Cain. “I didn’t like the debate at all. I really thought Perry lost it.”
Obomney is notorious for flipping and flopping and evading responsibility for his history. He is showing what a true RINO he is. The establishment Republicans love him and think he should be the nominee. “He’s the only one who can defeat Obama and win the independents!!” is their cry. The only problem is, the rank and file republicans are ignoring them. This came through with the Florida Straw Poll.
One of Cain’s weaknesses is foreign policy and it does show. However, I don’t see that as a major problem if he gets a few good people, such as John Bolton to help him. Mr. Cain has been looking more to the domestic issues that people want addressed.
Cain’s centerpiece: His plan to scrap the tax code and replace it with a flat 9 percent tax on income, national sales and business profits. Saturday morning, in a speech before the vote, the crowd chanted “9-9-9!” and had an electric response to almost everything he said..
Now I’ll be honest, I haven’t followed Mr. Cain’s plans very closely and this is the first of I’ve heard of his “9-9-9” plan. I do favor a much flatter tax code and closing a large, (OK most of), the government agencies screwing up the country.
“Let’s send a message to Washington,” he shouted. “We the people are still in charge of this country!”
It resonated in a convention where vendors sold “Don’t Tread on Me” ties and some activists dressed as revolutionary soldiers with tri-corner hats. After the vote, people streamed out of the convention hall roaring: “No more RINOS! No more RINOS!” — an acronym for Republicans in Name Only.
It appears the Republican Elites as well as the Mostly Stupid Main Stream Media still haven’t caught on to what the 2010 midterm elections really meant. People have had it with the Incumbent Party and are looking for anyone who is more competent than that utter and complete moron President Obama.
I haven’t made any decisions on who I’m voting for, but I have made a decision on who I will NEVER vote for. Number 1 on the list is Governor Mitt Romney. If he’s the nominee, I’ll write in someone in November. I do like Herman Cain and Michelle Bachman. I think those two would be a great team.
So, who would you like to be the Republican Nominee? Take my completely meaningless and totally unscientific poll. 🙂
