Amanda Knox cleared of murder

Good evening. A few hours ago Amanda Knox was cleared of murder after appealing her conviction on the same charge.

Obviously Ms. Knox is a very happy woman. One group that isn’t happy are the prosecutors. I’m not going into the details of the first trial that resulted in Ns. Knox’s original conviction. You can look it up yourselves. In fact, I didn’t pay all that much attention to it at the time. I was struck by some odd things after the first trial.

It looks like I may have been correct in thinking this was a bit hinky.

The trial judge declared Ms. Knox and another person innocent of the charges and said that she did not commit the crime. I don’t know Italian law at all, but for a judge or prosecutor to say that someone is innocent and didn’t commit the crime is a very rare thing. The last time I recall hearing it was after the Duke 3 were cleared after the attempt by the prosecutor, Michael Nifong ((Mike Nifong)), tried to railroad them into prison on bogus charges.

The big thing in the appellate court case was the throwing out of the DNA evidence used to convict Ms. Knox in the original trial. The defense team showed that the entire forensics case was badly botched to the point it should never have been admitted in the first place.

Again, I didn’t follow the original trial and I’m now looking things up as I write this. From what I am seeing, the prosecutor in this case, Giuliano Mignini, might have been a bit “overzealous”, shall we say in going after Amanda Knox.

Oops! That should tell you instantly that you probably have the wrong people in custody and maybe you should continue your investigation. Pop over to ABC News and read the entire article. Mignini comes across as the Italian Nifong. In other words, a complete disgrace to the Italian judicial system.

Amanda Knox has been cleared to leave Italy and should be on a plane out of the country in a few hours.

Hopefully the Italian police will reopen the investigation and take a fresh look at the evidence, preferably without Giuliano Mignini being involved.
