New toy for the Angry Webmaster

Hi all, it’s the Angry Systems Administrator. As the title suggests, the Angry Webmaster has a new toy. In this case it’s a new computer.

I’ve been working on getting it ready for the little twerp and just swapped it out for him today. This one uses Windows 7 Pro. He’s old one used Windows XP Pro. As anyone who’s paid attention understands, Windows XP is 10 years old and only has about 2 years to live. Then Microsoft will stand it up against a wall and shoot it.

The old system will be upgraded as soon as we’re sure we’ve gotten everything off it. No this does NOT include the ~~Perverted Idiot’s~~ Angry Webmaster’s porn collection. 😉

I have a copy of Windows 7 Pro for that system ready to go.

I also took the opportunity to blow the dust out of his old system. It was unbelievable how much was in there. I went through one canister of Canned Air and had to empty out the vacuum cleaner twice.

The new system is an HP. I didn’t feel like building one from scratch this time. It’s also a lot quieter. The only upgrades to it was a secondary 2TB hard drive, (And I posted my experiences with that last weekend and GB of ram. All in all, it’s not a bad system.

One issue we had was the web server the Webmaster had running on the old box. It had the Microsoft Frontpage extensions on it even though we don’t have them installed on the production server. (Yes, he uses Frontpage. Yes, he’s lazy)

I will admit I was a bit concerned when I read HP was going to sell off the PC division, but they changed course rather quickly when the new CEO figured out how much they would lose if they did so.
