Good evening. For the last week a controversy has been raging regarding some U.S. Marines who appear to have relieved themselves on the bodies of dead Taliban terrorists.
The Marines made a video and it was posted. Once it hit the Net, the controversy exploded as all the whining crybabies, primarily on the left, (Big surprise there), started screaming about desecrating the bodies of the “Brave Taliban just fighting for their homes.”
The Marines in question have been identified and I’m afraid they may be court-martialed over this. I think this would be a very bad idea. While I fully understand and support the need for “Good order and discipline,” I think a full blown court-martial would do far more harm then good. I’m not alone in this regard. Representative Allen West, (R-FL, LTC, USA Ret), also thinks a full court-martial would be a bad idea.
Rep. West sent an E-mail to the Weekly Standard who printed it with Rep. West permission.
From Representative Allen West to The Weekly Standard:
“I have sat back and assessed the incident with the video of our Marines urinating on Taliban corpses. I do not recall any self-righteous indignation when our Delta snipers Shugart and Gordon had their bodies dragged through Mogadishu. Neither do I recall media outrage and condemnation of our Blackwater security contractors being killed, their bodies burned, and hung from a bridge in Fallujah.
“All these over-emotional pundits and armchair quarterbacks need to chill. Does anyone remember the two Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who were beheaded and gutted in Iraq?
“The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.
“As for everyone else, unless you have been shot at by the Taliban, shut your mouth, war is hell.”
Representative West is far better to determine the levels of punishment in these matters than the moronic idiots in the media. Personally, I think even the Article 15 ((Nonjudicial Punishment, Article 15 of the Uiform Code of Military Justice)) might be a bit much. I would have had their Sargent takes these guys out and allow them to practice digging and filling in fighting holes and trenches for a week, then have them polish every latrine on base with a toothbrush. This would definitely get their attention and let them know they were wrong.
Allen West has been in combat. He lost his command over an incident in Iraq when he pulled a gun on a terrorist who had vital information and wouldn’t cough it up. Then Lieutenant Colonel West fired his pistol near the prisoner, but NOT at him. The terrorist gave up the information and American Soldiers lives were saved. However, the politically correct pinheads in the Pentagon as well as that fool George W. Bush relieved LTC. West of his command and forced him to retire.
There have been many other incidents of the Politically correct morons preventing us from winning the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in a clear and decisive manner. For example there were Marines accused of shooting prisoners in Haditha, Iraq there was a tragic incident in which a number of civilians were killed.
The investigation resulted in the arrest of the Marines involved, followed by the court actions. It was here that the cases against the Marines not only fell apart, but showed that they were politically motivated. One Marine remains in the judicial process, and it remains to be seen how that will turn out. Since all the others were acquitted or the charges dropped, there is some serious questions being asked as to why this case is going forward. ((You can search for the information on this yourself. There’s a lot out there. Ed))
Another was Former Marine Sargent Jose Luis Nazario, Jr. He was tried and acquitted for the murder of four unarmed detainees in Fallujah, Iraq. During the trial, Nazario’s lawyer told the Jury:
Nazario’s attorney, Kevin McDermott, told jurors they could not convict the former Marine sergeant of an alleged crime in which there were no bodies, no identities and no forensics. He also argued that a guilty verdict would only make service members second-guess their actions in combat. ((From MSNBC))
I also recall, but can not confirm that there was another investigation into the Marines during the Battle of Fallujah were there was accusations that the Marines were executing Iraqi’s by shooting them in the head. This time some forensics were done and it was found that the Marines where hitting the Iraqi Terrorists at 100-200+ yards. You may recall on the news that a lot of Marines had telescopic sites mounted on their rifles, and the Marines have always prided themselves on their marksmanship.
We’ve come a long way from the days in World War Two where no less than General George S. Patton, showing his contempt for Nazi Germany, stopped on a bridge over the Rhine and relieved himself.
Patton stops in the middle of a pontoon bridge over the Rhine River near Oppehneim to urinate on March 24, 1945. Said Patton, “I drove to the Rhine River and went across on the pontoon bridge. I stopped in the middle to take a piss and then picked up some dirt on the far side in emulation of William the Conqueror.” Later, he sent the following communique to Eisenhower: “Dear SHAEF, I have just pissed into the Rhine River. For God’s sake, send some gasoline.” This photo is the edited version (Patton’s urine stream has been eliminated by an Army censor). ((From the The George S. Patton Photo Page))
It seems a lot of soldiers of all ranks did this, as did Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Pissing on your enemies is a time honored tradition. In fact, I wonder why there are so many yellow colored puddles on Senator Edward Moore, (Dead Ted), Kennedy’s grave.
One of the reasons so many useless idiots want these Marines punished is that “it lowers us to their level and makes us no better than the Taliban.” First this is a load of horse droppings. These terrorists were dead and deservedly so. The Marines didn’t cut pieces of their bodies off, set them on fire and drag them through the streets and then hang from a bridge. ((31 March 2004 Fallujah ambush))
As someone on Facebook said during a discussion of just this subject:
I’m tired of the cry of “We have to be better than they are and not stoop to their level.” nonsense. I say we should go Roman on our enemies. In other words, “Make a desert and call it peace.”
Every time we’ve done that we haven’t had any problems with our enemies, such as the Confederate States, the Indian Nations, Imperial Japan, Nazi Germany, etc.
When was the last time Nazi’s or Imperial Japanese caused us any problems?
This poster was right of course. It’s time to clean out the wimps in the Pentagon and in Washington who keep tying the hands of our troops in the field. Yes, you have to maintain good order and discipline, but you also have to use common sense.
