Some updates and stuff

Good day all. This is the Angry Systems Administrator. I’ve been rather quiet of late and I thought it might be time to bring you up to date on some of the back end things here in the Anger Central Datacenter.

First, as you will have heard, the Angry Systems Administrator lost his father a few weeks ago. It wasn’t a shock. I knew him quite well and he had been in unwell for some time. Still, we all miss him. I know he is now in a better place.

On the technical side, I upgraded the WordPress blog software a couple of weeks ago. It went quite smoothly and there were no issues. These upgrades are getting easier to do with each revision, but I still take multiple full backups ever time. None of the plugins croaked for a change, which was a switch. I’ve also reduced the number of active plugins and have removed a few older ones. They no longer work or don’t do what we want them to do.

As for the Angry Webmaster, he called me this weekend, on my day off, venting about his stereo receiver. That ancient pile of rust finally failed and he wasn’t able to watch his TV. Gee, my heart bleeds for him…NOT! Anyway, he demanded I come over and help him replace it and get it going again. We hopped down to Best Buy and I found an open box special. It was a display model from last year and was a good 50% off it’s original price. Since the manual and the remote were missing, I talked the sales rep into a bit more off the list price.

I also picked up a blu-ray player for His Nibs. This one is WiFi capable and I hooked it into the nitwits network. Then I had to reprogram that useless moron’s Harmony remote. That one was a bit trickier, and I still have a few adjustments to make to it. All in all the entire package., including the extended warranties came in under $300. Of course that doesn’t count my time, but we all know that good for nothing cheapskate isn’t going to slip me a bonus.

The Receiver is a Best buy house brand and isn’t available from Amazon. I’ve added the Blu-ray system to the advertising system for your viewing.
