Good day all, as the title of this posting implies, “No Good Deed shall go Unpunished. In this case, we have a story about a woman trying to help people in the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia.
In this case, we have a woman helping feed the hungry being threatened with $600 a day fines if she continues. (Can’t have the private sector showing up the bureaucrats now, can we?) The story about this is on Fox News:
Philadelphia woman faces $600-a-day fine for feeding needy neighborhood kids
A Pennsylvania woman who offers free lunch every day to low-income children in her neighborhood faces a $600-a-day fine next summer if she continues because she did not clear the food giveaway with township officials.
Angela Prattis donates her time to distribute the meals — supplied by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia — and adheres to strict paperwork, like filling out weekly reports and being visited bi-weekly from a state worker, MyFoxPhilly.com reports.
So, we have a woman, filling out all the paperwork needed and being visited by the State to make sure she isn’t poisoning the little darlings. She is making sure they get a decent meal into them and generally doing “A Good Thing TM” and getting shafted by some pin-headed moronic local twerp of a bureaucrat. So why did they start picking on this nice church going lady?
Ms Prattis reportedly distributes the meals to the 60 or so children at a gazebo on her property during the summer months, when children are home from school.
So she is providing a safe place for this kids to get some food and not have to worry about some gang bangers doing a drive by. So far I don’t see a problem. However…
The Delaware County Times reports that another resident alerted the council about the distribution a few weeks ago. The council investigated and ruled that the practice is not permitted without a variance, the paper reported.
Yep, sounds a lot like some Progressive Liberal Democrat was upset that giggling happy children were getting a square meal and decided to put a stop to it.
Chester Township, which has a per capita income of $19,000 a year, says Prattis lives in a residential zone, hence handing out food to children is not allowed. The township says she needs to go before a zoning board to ask for a variance, which would cost her up to $1,000 in administrative fees.
How typical. A person, who is not costing the city any money and is providing a benefit, (With the aid of a church) has to come up with $1000 for the privilege of asking for permission to help people. Of course, the city bureaucrats, finding themselves in a hole, got themselves a bigger shovel.
“I don’t think it’s my responsibility to go to her to say, ‘why don’t you come to talk to me to see if there’s something that we can do to help your program,'” William Pisarek, the Chester Township business manager, said.
Moron. What we have here is your typical bureaucrat who would rather children go hungry and run rampant through the streets than try and work with someone who is trying to make a better world for them.
Putz.
And what does Ms. Prattis have to say about the demands from your typical uncaring bureaucracy?
Prattis told The Delaware County Times that she is not going to stop feeding the children in the area.
Good! I hope the Church that’s working with her can also mobilize their parishioners to help out with the idiots running the township and if needed, raise one unholy stink to shame them into ending their idiocy.
Good luck to you Ms. Prattis. We need more people like you and a lot less like the moron who ratted you out and this city manager who can’t see a good thing when it lands in his lap. He could have worked with her to get the variance, waved the stupid fee and come out of this looking like a great guy. Now, with a little luck and a lot of help from all of you, he will discover the true meaning of the “Streisand Effect” first hand.
