libraries

I GO TO THE LIBRARY QUITE A LOT,MAINLY BECAUSE I AM UNEMPLOYED AND BORED,BUT I GET REALLY PISSED OFF A LOT OF THE TIME BECAUSE OF THE FUCKING NOISE IN THESE PLACES,THE LIBRARY IS A PLACE OF STUDY,TODAY SOMEONE WAS MOVING FURNITURE AROUND DRAGGING IT ALONG THE FUCKING FLOOR FOR FUCKS SAKE.IT SOUNDED TERRIBLE,I WAS TRYING TO READ A BOOK AND I COULDN'T CONCENTRATE.WHEN YOU WALK IN THESE PLACES THEY HAVE NOTICES SAYING TO TURN OFF YOUR MOBILE PHONE AND THEN WHILE YOU'RE RESEARCHING SOMETHING THE FUCKING LIBRARY PHONE STARTS RINGING AND ITS FUCKING AGES BEFORE THEY ANSWER IT,FUCKING HYPOCRITES!

I too find it frustrating that libraries are no longer quiet. I mean, what the heck are they for if you can read because some group (usually someones bratty kids) is conducting a debate, or a meeting, or just talking about who's hot on TV at the next table. Apparently, sometime in the late 80s early 90s, libraries got away from being quiet. No tangible explaination why. I have my own. I think that parents were unable or unwilling to control their kids, so they changed the rules to get the parents off the hook!

Whatever happened to the days when libraries were actually quiet? Not anymore. Damned soccer moms use it as a place to show off their ugly ass kids...and there's infant story time where everyone drags a squalling baby into the library where the fat hag of a librarian reads to the little loafs who don't have two brain cells to rub together. All they do is squall and shit their diapers. Really charming.

The library has become a daycare center. Why? Kids don't read anymore, they just want to take out videos and play on the computers. The parents drag their damned little kids in and don't teach them to be quiet and the librarians won't make the kids be quiet either.

Don't call it a library, call it a freakin DAY CARE CENTER! A LOUD FREAKIN DAY CARE CENTER...it just happens to have books.

In addition to what others have already said about the noise level and shit-machines (children) at libraries, I have an additional concern: Where the hell are the BOOKS? I'm talking books that are not novels, including the latest romance piece of crap (ladies, these men do NOT exist in real life). I mean books with actual information that has been updated within the past three years. Have you tried to take out a technology book lately? Everything that actually shows you how to do something (not those 'For Dummies' books or the Bill Gates books) is old as hell! Why are books on Windows 95/98 still on the shelves?! WTF?

I understand that there's not much money supporting libraries these days, but instead of spending the money they DO get on crap like the latest novels (which are generally read by people who contribute little to society), why not spend the money on books that people can read to learn something and get a better job? People don't NEED spy novels, they NEED technical job skills. If you don't have $60+ to spend on a technical book, you sure don't have thousands to spend on a training course. Not all of us have jobs with big corporations that will foot the bill.

And everyone wants to know why other countries kick our asses in the U.S. when it comes to knowledge and technical skills. I'll bet people in India don't spend all their time reading trash literature.

A news item we read this week stated that librarians were tossing out a lot of the old classics because they hadn't been checked out in a few years. By classics, we mean Hemmingway, Voltaire, etc.

I go to libraries to get out of the house and read for free. 90% of the rest of library patrons go there to sleep and be homeless. I even picked up a homeless library stalker. I can't go there once it gets dark. This is a free place where the poor underprivileged can learn and better themselves. Where KNOWLEDGE is gained. Instead idiot Americans rarely grace the place and it has turned in to a wasteland. No wonder all the people I've met from California public schools can't spell.

You can thank the ACLU and the Supreme Court for turning libraries into homeless shelters
