For itself, not for the rest of the serfs and peons out here in flyover country. When Obamacare was rammed down the throats of the American People by the Nazi Democrat party. One of the things they did to make it more “palatable” to the voters was to include Congress in the mandates.
Well, that has been done away with. The congress, as usual, has exempted itself from the same laws we have to obey. Here are the reasons and details from Politico:
Lawmakers and staff can breathe easy — their health care tab is not going to soar next year.
Unlike everyone else.
The Office of Personnel Management, under heavy pressure from Capitol Hill, will issue a ruling that says the government can continue to make a contribution to the health care premiums of members of Congress and their aides, according to several Hill sources.
So, not only do I have to pay for MY insurance, Wanda the Welfare Queen’s insurance, now my taxes are also going to pay for those useless moronic Royal Entourage staffers too.
The problem was rooted in the original text of the Affordable Care Act. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) inserted a provision which said members of Congress and their aides must be covered by plans “created” by the law or “offered through an exchange.” Until now, OPM had not said if the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program could contribute premium payments toward plans on the exchange. If payments stopped, lawmakers and aides would have faced thousands of dollars in additional premium payments each year. Under the old system, the government contributed nearly 75 percent of premium payments.
Now we can’t have that now, can we? Oh no, the Special People in Washington are far to busy ruining running the nation to have to worry about little things like being bankrupted by the very laws they are jamming down our throats. Good thing Obama stepped in to save the privileged class from dealing with his disaster.
Obama’s involvement in solving this impasse was unusual, to say the least. But it came after serious griping from both sides of the aisle about the potential of a “brain drain.” The fear, as told by sources in both parties, was that aides would head for more lucrative jobs, spooked by the potential for spiking health premiums.
Brain drain? Please, this is the United States Congress. Intelligence and common sense are not permitted. Since most of these people have never worked a day in the “Dreaded Private Sector” yet insist they know just what businesses need to run, having most of these clods leave the Hill and trying their hands at something they are actually qualified for would be a good thing. Oh, those highly skilled jobs in the private sector that would be a perfect fit for most of them? It will require them to memorize this line:
“Would you like fries with your order?”
There was a certain sense of urgency, too, since enrollment in the exchanges was set to begin Oct. 1. There were discussions of a legislative fix — attaching language to a must-pass bill to fix the problem. But that would’ve been too difficult in today’s paralyzed Washington.
Probably due to the fact that the majority of Americans are utterly opposed to:
- Obamacare
- Congress exempting themselves from the laws we have to follow
White House officials acknowledged that a fix was needed. But they knew that once they dealt with it through a regulation, some Republicans would use it against them – even though most of their party was privately obsessing over it.
Obama using the regulatory system to ignore congress. What a surprise from the most corrupt, tyrannical president in American History. And as usual, Nancy Pelosi shows once again that she is utterly out to lunch.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), in a statement Thursday night, touted the law’s benefits and Democrats’ efforts to educate consumers.
“Members of Congress and their staffs must enroll in health marketplaces as the Affordable Care Act requires,” she wrote. “As we continue our work to ensure the smooth implementation of this law and look forward to the start of enrollment on October 1st, we will continue our efforts this August to educate consumers on the law’s provisions and tout the critical benefits already in place for millions of Americans.”
What benefits? Massive increases in health insurance costs? Shortages of doctors as they flee the system? Rationing and death panels? I would love to see Representative Nancy “We must pass the bill to know what’s in the bill” Pelosi forced to sit in a room all day waiting for a doctor she has never met, spending 5 minutes with her and sending her home with two aspirin. She and all the other Liberal Progressive Democrats have finally achieved their goal of the utter and complete destruction of the United States. Soon enough, we will all be living in Detroit.
It’s time that congress start feeling the pain they have inflicted on the rest of us.
Emperor Misha I has also noticed that Congress is taking care of themselves at the expense of everyone else.
