Time to get some new Long Johns!

Why? Because it’s going to be a long, cold winter according to the Farmers Almanac. How can this be you might ask. Didn’t Al Gore, quoting a UN report, say just last week that we are now 95% certain of the causes of Global Warming ((Report: UN panel finds it’s 95 percent likely humans cause of climate change))? What evil Right Wing group is saying that we are not going to all burn to death when the Earth turns into another Venus in 6 months?

Why, that would be the Farmers Almanac, which has been around doing long term forecasts for almost 200 years now. They claim an 80% accuracy rate according to their readers ((Farmers Almanac Weather Predictions)). Now, according to Fox News:

The Farmers’ Almanac is using words like “piercing cold,” ”bitterly cold” and “biting cold” to describe the upcoming winter. And if its predictions are right, the first outdoor Super Bowl in years will be a messy “Storm Bowl.”

The 197-year-old publication that hits newsstands Monday predicts a winter storm will hit the Northeast around the time the Super Bowl is played at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands in New Jersey. It also predicts a colder-than-normal winter for two-thirds of the country and heavy snowfall in the Midwest, Great Lakes and New England.

“We’re using a very strong four-letter word to describe this winter, which is C-O-L-D. It’s going to be very cold,” said Sandi Duncan, managing editor.

Oh joy. I hate snow. I hate shoveling snow. However, I’m sure they use the strictest of scientific methods.

Based on planetary positions, sunspots and lunar cycles, the almanac’s secret formula is largely unchanged since founder David Young published the first almanac in 1818.

Sunspot activity is one of the indicators for solar output. From what I understand, we have been suffering a distinct lack of sunspots for a few years now, which, amazingly enough, coincides with the global cooling that has been underway for the last 10-20 years. The last time this happened was way back in the early 18^th century and was called the Maunder Minimum ((Maunder Minimum))

Now there is a lot of debate over solar activity and how it might affect the weather. However, there is little doubt that the winters back then were horrible. From the Science Encyclopedia:

Despite the ongoing controversy, for which there is decidedly no definitive answer as of the year 2000, there is no doubt the Maunder minimum years were a time of significant misery in Europe, with the long, harsh winters leading to shortened growing seasons, failed crops, and widespread famine. Whether, or to what degree, the Sun is responsible for this, is an important question for atmospheric scientists and astronomers to tackle over the next few decades.

So basically, the Farmers Almanac has figured out what the Global Warming idiots haven’t. The weather is primarily affected by that big yellow ball some 93,000,000 miles away from us? Gee, who would have thought? Anyway, according to Caleb Weatherbee, the prognosticator for the Farmers Almanac:

Caleb Weatherbee, the publication’s elusive prognosticator, said he was off by only a couple of days on two of the season’s biggest storms: a February blizzard that paralyzed the Northeast with 3 feet of snow in some places and a sloppy storm the day before spring’s arrival that buried parts of New England.

That’s better then the Weather Channel I would say. They have trouble with anything more then a week out, never mind 18 MONTHS out.

Readers who put stock in the almanac’s forecasts may do well to stock up on long johns, especially if they’re lucky enough to get tickets to the Super Bowl on Feb. 2. The first Super Bowl held outdoors in a cold-weather environment could be both super cold and super messy, with a big storm due Feb. 1 to 3, the almanac says. Said Duncan: “It really looks like the Super Bowl may be the Storm Bowl.”

I think I will just not watch the game on TV, like I do every year. Now the Farmer’s Almanac is NOT the Old Farmers Almanac. That will be coming out next month and is based here in New Hampshire. The Farmer’s Almanac is published in Maine, home of potatoes, moose and a town that became a mall. (And really not much else) It will be interesting to see just how accurate they are. One thing is certain, Al Gore is a delusional con man who has succeeded in warming a new religion AND, in violation of the United States Constitution, is working to have it become the official religion of the United States. That fraud needs some serious fines and jail time.
