Chicago smacked in the head again

Chicago is a city controlled by Progressive Liberal Criminals Democrats and has been for decades. They are not known for giving a rats ass about the constitutional rights of the residents, especially the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

This has brought a number of court challenges, all of which the city and the state of Illinois have lost. This hasn’t stopped Chicago from pretty much ignoring the courts and continuing to ban law abiding citizens any means of defending themselves. Well, yet another case has gone to the courts and once again Chicago was told to obey the Constitution. Here are the details from Fox News:

After ruling Chicago’s ban on firearm sales a breach of constitutional rights earlier this month, a federal judge is giving the city 180 days to formulate a new law governing gun stores.

I would have given them 10 business days myself then lowered the boom. However, I’m not a judge.

Judge Edward Chang of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, granted the city’s request for time to craft an ordinance reflecting, as one municipal official said, “many detailed components, including zoning, licensing and operational requirements for gun dealers.”

In other words, the judge was conned into believing these thugs have any intention of complying with previous orders.

In his original Jan. 6 ruling, Chang not only struck down Chicago’s decades-old ban on firearm sales and transfers, but opined that the ban in America’s third-largest city doesn’t necessarily reduce violent crime, as the city has long insisted as a rationale for the prohibition.

“Chicago’s ordinance goes too far in outright banning legal buyers and legal dealers from engaging in lawful acquisitions and lawful sales of firearms,” Chang wrote, according to Forbes, “and at the same time the evidence does not support that the complete ban sufficiently furthers the purposes that the ordinance tries to serve.”

Chicago has one of the highest murder rates in the country. It also has one of the toughest gun control measures as well. Compare that with cities that comply with the Constitution and you will see that those areas have low rates of crime and violence. Yes, there are statistics and you can dig them up.

And the response from the Mayors office? About what you would expect from them.

For his part, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement, “I am pleased the court granted our request for a six-month delay to allow time to adopt a municipal ordinance regulating firearm sales in Chicago.

“Our goal is to create the strictest regulations that protect our residents and also comply with the court order without undermining the progress we have made in reducing violent crime throughout our city.”

In other words, screw the Second Amendment, I will not allow the serfs any means of defending themselves. Well it looks like the Judge is having none of that garbage.

As Forbes noted, Chang seemed to draw in his 32-page opinion upon statistics showing no correlation — at least in some instances — between the predominance of gun-carrying citizens with violent crime.

The magazine compared Chicago’s 2012 homicide total of more than 500, with Houston’s — which stood at about 200, despite similarly sized populations and the latter’s comparatively lax regulation on firearms.

While Chicago reportedly has no gun stores and an effective ban on concealed carry permits, Houston not only allowed its citizens to carry concealed weapons, but claims more than 180 dedicated gun stores, not including the 1,500 or so other stores — like Walmart — that sell firearms among other wares.

The Progressive Liberal Democrats will not accept that more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens equals less crime. Of course, all these Progressive Liberals usually have their own armed security and gated communities to protect them. The term for this is “Hypocrisy.” One of the biggest practitioners is former mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg. He is dedicated to stripping away not only the Second amendment rights of the American People, but is a firm believer in “Rule by the Elites.” While he was trying to throw people in jail for having a picture of a gun, he traveled around with a number of armed guards, and continues to do so even though he has left office.

I have no doubt that this will be run up to the Supreme Court. More and more they are beginning to understand that the Second Amendment means exactly what it says AND are beginning to see why the founders put it in place. It is the final check on a runaway government.

In the original ruling, Chang seemed to grant Second Amendment advocates a big win in both noting the responsibility of governments to protect its citizens, but also reportedly writing, “…on the other side of this case is another feature of government: certain fundamental rights are protected by the Constitution, put outside government’s reach, including the right to keep and bear arms for self-defense under the Second Amendment.”

I seem to recall that Judge Chang was an Obama appointee. This must really stick in the craw of Rahm Emanuel, since he was Obama’s Chief of Staff and no doubt had a hand in getting him appointed to the bench. Oh the Schadenfreude is sweet and succulent. I would hazard a guess that Emanuel and Obama thought they were appointing someone who would be a lockstep Progressive and would issue rulings that would gut not only the Second Amendment, but the entire constitution. Allow me to play some music for them.
