IRS scandal continues to worsen

It’s been a while since I looked at the targeting of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service. My last post was about the appearance of Democrats using the IRS for political purposes. Now it seems it has gotten even worse.

Information has now come out that Lois Lerner and others were talking with the Department of Justice to prosecute the various conservative and Tea Party groups that were looking for tax exempt status. Here are some of the details from Fox News:

Republicans say newly released emails show that if the IRS’ targeting of Tea Party groups hadn’t been stopped, those organizations could have faced “trumped up criminal charges” — since ex-IRS official Lois Lerner and the Justice Department were apparently coordinating just days before the scandal was exposed. The emails, obtained by Judicial Watch and first reported by TownHall.com, showed correspondence between Lerner and others at the IRS regarding the Justice Department’s interest in investigating “political” groups. Based on the emails, the IRS seemed to be on board.

This should scare the crap out of anyone regardless of political affiliation. The IRS is supposed to be totally nonpolitical. As we have seen over the last year, not only have they not been neutral in dealing with tax free status for the various groups, both right and left, they actively worked to suppress their activities before the 2012 general election. Now we’re seeing that they also intended to use the DOJ to not only suppress these groups, but also railroad them into prison.

House Republicans claimed after the emails were published that they were further proof of coordination among various agencies to target conservatives.

“The release of new documents underscores the political nature of IRS Tea Party targeting and the extent to which supposed apolitical officials took direction from elected Democrats,” House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said in a statement. “These e-mails are part of an overwhelming body of evidence that political pressure from prominent Democrats led to the targeting of Americans for their political beliefs.”

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said that if the targeting hadn’t been stopped, “Eric Holder’s politicized Justice Department would likely have been leveling trumped up criminal charges against Tea Party groups to intimidate them from exercising their Constitutional rights.”

We are now seeing the end game of the Progressive Liberal Elites. Their goal is nothing less then the end of the Republic and the institution of a Fascist Totalitarian state. If this plan by Lerner and the Democrats had not been uncovered, there is little doubt we would be seeing a number of people now on trial on trumped up charges. We would also be seeing nothing but cheerleading from the Obama Steno Pool led by the New York Times.

In a May 2013 email, Lerner responded to a Justice Department inquiry about whether tax-exempt groups could be criminally prosecuted for lying about political activity.

“I got a call today from Richard Pilger Director Elections Crimes Branch at DOJ,” Lerner reportedly wrote to the office of Steven Miller, the agency’s acting director at the time. “He wanted to know who at IRS the DOJ folk s [sic] could talk to about Sen. Whitehouse idea at the hearing that DOJ could piece together false statement cases about applicants who ‘lied’ on their 1024s — saying they weren’t planning on doing political activity, and then turning around and making large visible political expenditures.

“DOJ is feeling like it needs to respond, but want to talk to the right folks at IRS to see whether there are impediments from our side and what, if any damage this might do to IRS programs. I told him that sounded like we might need several folks from IRS.”

I have a suspicion that a certain Attorney General, currently being held in Contempt of Congress was involved in this. His utter contempt for the Constitution, the rule of law and the separation of powers is well known. Then we have members of congress, such as Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehead foaming at the mouth to jail anyone who might not expose the ideals of the Progressive Fascist Liberal Democrats.

And now it’s come out that out that Representative Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland) may have been lying when he said he wasn’t getting information from the IRS on conservative groups. According to the Free Beacon:

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) sent tax documents on a targeted conservative group to Democratic staff on the House Oversight Committee, newly released emails show, despite previous denials by ranking Oversight Democrat Elijah Cummings (D., Md.) that such contact had occurred. Emails released by the GOP-led Oversight Committee show Democratic staff requested information from the IRS’ tax-exempt division on True The Vote, a conservative group that monitors polling places for voter fraud.

The organization that Cummings apparently wanted information on was a group called True the Vote and it’s founder Catherine Engelbrecht. True the Vote’s goal is fairly straightforward. They want to make sure that the voter rolls only contain people who are legally entitled to vote in that district. For more details on True the Vote, please read their mission statement. Long story short, their idea is to scrub the voter rolls of people who have died or moved away. They also support some form of voter ID to verify that a voter is actually entitled to vote.

The Democrats were furious that someone wanted to have an actual honest election, since that would make it even more difficult for Democrats to be elected. This lead to an unprecedented level of scrutiny for True the Vote and Ms. Engelbrecht ((True Scandal)). Literally every federal agency went after her, her family and her business. She became the poster child for IRS and government abuse. When she testified before Darrell Issa’s committee looking into the IRS abuse, Cummings went on the attack. According to NewsMax:

Conservative activist Catherine Engelbrecht said the questions Maryland Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings asked her during a hearing in February sounded “eerily similar” to what the Internal Revenue Service asked her after her organization applied for nonprofit status.

“It was just a little too close for comfort,” Engelbrecht told “Fox & Friends” Wednesday.

Cummings has been working for months to shut down the investigation. He was backing Lois Lerner’s and the IRS’s view that the incidents were minor and due to the actions of a few “rogue” personnel in one field office.

Cummings, also a member of the Oversight committee, has suggested the House was wasting its time with the investigation, and told CNN last year “the case is solved,” according to an editorial in Investor’s Business Daily. The editorial said Cummings “had been working hand in glove with the IRS to target conservative groups and wanted the fact to remain a secret.”

When this blew up in their faces, Cummings continued to belittle anyone who wanted to dig into this. A few weeks ago, it came out that Elijah Cummings had been seeking information from the IRS.

Rep. Darrell Issa, a California Republican and chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, released emails April 9 that suggested Cummings contacted the IRS urging the agency to investigate Engelbrecht’s organization after it applied for nonprofit status.

Cummings has claimed that his staff was only seeking “Publicly available” information on True the Vote. Issa was having none of this. According to the Daily Caller:

Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, is accusing members of Rep. Elijah Cummings’ staff of colluding with the IRS to investigate the conservative group True the Vote.

“Although you have previously denied that your staff made inquiries to the IRS about conservative organization True the Vote that may have led to additional agency scrutiny, communication records between your staff and IRS officials – which you did not disclose to Majority Members or staff – indicates otherwise,” reads a letter sent to Cummings by Issa and five subcommittee chairmen.

Basically, Issa called Cummings a liar. Cummings, Whitehead, Schumer and many other Democrats in the House and Senate have all called the IRS scandal a “Nothing, made up story.” While they were all saying this, they were issuing demands that every available agency investigate and stop groups like True the vote and the Tea Party Express. Obama has stated that there was ‘Not even a smidgen of corruption’ with regards to the IRS trying to suppress conservative groups. As we now know, Obama and the truth have serious compatibility issues with the Truth filing for divorce.

This scandal, along with all the other actions taken by the Obama Regime should terrify people. We have seen in the last few months people refusing to comply with gun control laws, (That are designed to disarm Citizens and nothing else), and recently what amounted to an armed confrontation between Citizens and the Bureau of Land Management. (Which, thankfully, ended peacefully) What is happening is simple. The Progressive Liberal Democrats are beginning to see that their goals are in reach, and they are going to do whatever it takes to achieve them. Because most Americans, at least those who aren’t borg-like sheep, are opposed to what the Progressive Liberal Democrats want, they began using the first three “Boxes of Liberty ((Four boxes of liberty))” to reign in both the Progressive Liberal Democrats and their oppressive, out of control agencies.

Since the Progressive Liberal Democrats only care about themselves and absolute power, they have decided to crush the conservative groups and any others who oppose them. They are showing themselves to be blind to what is happening out here in “Flyover Country.” This is why the Bundy Ranch incident caught them by surprise. For the first time since 1946 ((Battle of Athens)), the 4^th box of liberty was pulled out of the closet and unlocked. Luckily, it remained closed.

The problem is, the Progressive Liberal democrats are not only not getting the message, they are doubling down on their attempts to destroy anyone who opposes them. Unless they start actually thinking about where there words and actions might lead, we are heading for a major confrontation rivaling that of the Colonists verses King George III. Hopefully, November will bring major changes to the House and Senate, with a significant number of Progressive Liberal Democrats along with their RINO fellow travelers being shown the door.
