IRS tax cheats rewarded with bonuses

Why am I not surprised at this? With the ever increasing scandal going on with the Internal Revenue Service, they just have to double down on the stupid. Rather then start punishing some of the malefactors, preferably by firing them, they instead reward them with bonuses.

What’s worse? Some of these bubbleheads have issues with paying their own taxes as well as conduct issues. Here are some details from Fox News:

IRS employees who had been disciplined for tax and conduct issues were nonetheless rewarded with monetary awards or time off, according to a watchdog report released Tuesday. The report by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration found that while for the most part the reward program for IRS workers complied with federal regulations, employees who had themselves failed to pay their federal taxes and had discipline problems were also rewarded.

“While not prohibited, providing awards to employees who have been disciplined for failing to pay federal taxes appears to create a conflict with the IRS’s charge of ensuring the integrity of the system of tax administration,” Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration J. Russell George said.

The Good Idea Fairy 3

I hate to be the one to tell you Mr. Russell, but the “Integrity of the system” went the way of the Dinosaur a very long time ago, or haven’t you been paying any attention to the hearings now going on in the House of Representatives? Perhaps you missed Lois Lerner’s taking the 5th, even though she has been talking to the Justice department? (Right now, looking at a possible jail sentence, I suspect she’s more into “Drinking a 5th” rather then taking the 5th)) Just how bad is this? According to Fox:

The watchdog found that in the period from October 1, 2010 to December 31, 2012 over 2,800 employees who had been disciplined for conduct problems, including issues with federal tax compliance, had received over $2.8 million in monetary awards and over 27,000 hours in time-off awards. The watchdog found that the more than 1,100 employees who had issues with tax compliance received more than $1 million in monetary awards and more than 10,000 hours in time-off awards.

Well, I would love to see them blame this on Bush. This is pure Obama. He’s been in charge of this and rather then put people in management positions who could prevent or correct things like this, he put people in place to abuse the authority of the IRS to go after conservative groups.

Spite House

Since this is the most corrupt and lawless administration in the history of the United States, I am not surprised that Der Fubar would rather reward these people rather then fire them. The actions of the IRS in recent years, besides suppressing the first amendment rights of groups they opposes, actually puts IRS personnel in danger. If they go after people who think they are being unfairly targeted, they might respond violently. There is no one more dangerous then someone who has literally nothing to lose. They might decide if they are going down, then they might as well take some of these corrupt bureaucrats with them. We really don’t want to see this happen and the best way to prevent it is to clean out the bad apples. Fire them and kick them out the door.

If you and I pay the Internal Revenue Service less than it claims it owes us, we can get slammed pretty hard with fines, penalties, and even jail time. … But still, to be a tax collector who skates along on the company credit card, abuses taxpayers, and holds back on your own taxes while getting a pat on the back and a bonus has to be a pretty sweet deal. The inspector general’s office urged the IRS to consider requiring management to take into account conduct issues resulting in …
