Good day all, and it IS a good day. A notorious RINO, Eric Cantor was crushed in his primary yesterday. In a massive upset, David Brat, an underfunded and not well known candidate defeated Cantor by an 11 percent margin even being outspent by Cantor some 12 to 1.
Eric Cantor was, up until last night, being touted as the next Speaker of the House when Crybaby Boehner steps down. Needless to say, that plan was just shredded and burned. In all probability, Cantor, who is now a lame duck, will step down as majority leader. As to who will take over? No idea.
The crushing defeat caught everyone by surprise including Mr. Brat. I happened to tune into Fox last night a few minutes before 9pm, switching through to another channel, when I saw Meghan “Easy on the eyes” Kelly on. Normally it would be that idiot Bill O’Reilly and I thought that there must be some major news story, such as a bombing or something. Instead Ms. Kelly was announcing that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor had just been blown out in the primary by his challenger, David Brat. Needless to say I didn’t move on as I had planned.
Ms. Kelly had Brat supporters Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham on by telephone. Both of them had been doing what they could to send Cantor to the showers, but didn’t expect to actually succeed. Ms. Kelly also had on other Beltway pundits such as Brit Hume to talk about what had happened. The look on Hume’s face said it all to me. He was obviously a big Cantor/RINO supporter and to see one of his friends destroyed shocked him.
All the pundits on Fox, (I did switch down to CNN a few times, but all they had were commercials), were trying to grasp the reasons for Cantor’s political demise. They all agreed that Cantor’s stands on immigration played a big part, with Mr. Brat saying that Cantor was in favor of amnesty for illegals. There were also comments that Cantor was supporting the NSA’s spying on Americans as well as his arrogance and generally ignoring his constituents.
Frankly, I don’t care. Mr. Brat’s opposition only started campaigning yesterday and is probably going to lose. What this does indicate is that the TEA Party isn’t dead, and in fact has bagged another RINO. This also bodes ill for Senator Thad Cochran, (RINO-Mississippi). He has been pushed into a runoff against another TEA Party favorite, Chris McDaniel. The odds are not good that Cochran will win, especially now that the TEA Party has knocked off Cantor. With luck and hard work, we will see yet another RINO bite the dust.
Congratulations Mr. Brat and good luck in the General Election this November.
