Yesterday I wrote about the excuse the Internal Revenue Service was using to keep from providing Congress Lois Lerner’s email. They claimed that her hard drive had failed and “Oh! I’m sorry, we can’t get them back.” That excuse went over like a lead filled balloon.
Well guess what? The IRS liked that excuse so much, they’ve decided to use it again. According to the National Review Online:
It’s not just Lois Lerner’s e-mails. The Internal Revenue Service says it can’t produce e-mails from six more employees involved in the targeting of conservative groups, according to two Republicans investigating the scandal.
Damn! That is one big hungry dog the IRS has there.
The IRS told Ways and Means chairman Dave Camp and subcommittee chairman Charles Boustany that computer crashes resulted in additional lost e-mails, including from Nikole Flax, the chief of staff to former IRS commissioner Steven Miller, who was fired in the wake of the targeting scandal.
Gee, isn’t that a coincidence? Funny how all those hard drives crashed at the same time now, isn’t it? And isn’t amazing that they all lost the information that Congress was looking for? Yeah, right.
The revelation about Lerner’s e-mails rekindled the scandal and today’s news has further inflamed Republicans.
As to inflaming the PLFD’s? Not so much. We have the Senior Communist Democrat on the committee, Elijah Cummings, basically saying “Nothing to see here, move along, move along. According to a story in Breitbart last year:
On CNN’s State of the Union this morning, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) told Candy Crowley that the IRS scandal involving targeting of conservatives had been “solved.” Crowley asked, “As far as you are concerned, based on the information that you now have, which in its totality is greater than ours, is this case over, have you solved the case of the IRS and how this came to be?”
Cummings answered, “Based upon everything I’ve seen, the case is solved. If it were me, I’d wrap this case up and move on.”
Needless to say, the Republicans aren’t buying this nonsense at all. Going back to the National Review Online:
Camp and Boustany are now demanding a special prosecutor to investigate “every angle” of the targeting. They expressed particular outrage that the agency has known since February that it would not be able to produce the e-mails requested by the committee yet did not apprise the committee of that fact, and they charged in a statement that the IRS is attempting to “cover up the fact that it convenient lost key documents in the investigation.”
I don’t think we need a special prosecutor just yet. What the Committee should do is subpena the IT people in charge of the IRS servers and have them testify on how these documents were lost. These people will fold like a cheap suit when put in front of the committee. They have no reason to protect the higher ups in the IRS and am excellent reason to throw them under the bus. The IRS is required to preserve the emails of everyone by law, and not doing so is a great way to spend time in Club Fed.
Now, I understand that the IRS uses Microsoft Exchange servers with the Symantec email archiving system. (I’m still verifying this) This product is designed to prevent what the IRS is claiming happened. Now for those of you who don’t know how MS Exchange works, your email is left on the server. Even when you delete it, a copy is kept so that you can recover it if you need to. With a business or government entity, you can’t even delete it. The message will be placed somewhere for backup and storage. (This is very simplistic and I would need to talk with the Angry Systems Administrator about the details. We don’t use Exchange at Anger Central) According to Fox News, other Information Technology people don’t believe the excuse either.
The IRS’ inability to locate a trove of emails belonging to Lois Lerner, the former agency official at the center of the department’s targeting scandal is “mind-boggling,” according to an expert in electronic discovery. Bruce Webster, who has served as a consulting and IT expert in more than 80 civil lawsuits, is astonished by the fact that the IRS could lose two years’ worth of emails.
“It is very well known in both legal and IT circles that as soon as litigation and/or criminal investigation is likely — not actually initiated, but merely likely — it is imperative to preserve any relevant electronic documents, even it if means suspending existing practices of, say, email deletion or purging of backup files,” he explained in an email to FoxNews.com.
“So, for the IRS to come back and say, ‘we didn’t save those emails on our servers, and the external hard drive that Ms. Lerner used to backup the emails has crashed’ is mind-boggling. In a court of law, that could be considered grounds for finding spoliation of evidence; in other words, even if the loss was inadvertent, it would be considered as deliberate destruction of evidence and sanctioned accordingly.”
And, as I mentioned before, it’s also a felony. The announcement from the IRS that they had lost all the relevant email from Lois Lerner was unbelievable. Now they are saying they lost the email from six other people involved in this scandal? Did they cancel the contract with Symantec and go with the Rose Mary Woods Data Protection services1?
No, this has all the hallmarks of a dedicated coverup. I suspect, although I can’t prove it of course, that at the very least, Valerie Jarrett was involved in this, along with a few members of the House and Senate. It is entirely possible that Obama himself was involved in the government harassment of his political opponents, and if the missing emails provide proof of this, Obama is history. Even the Progressive Liberal Fascist Democrats won’t be able to save him.
The IRS coverup is now starting to take on a life of its own. Even the Mostly Stupid Media, better known as the Obama Steno Pool won’t be able to bury this if the emails are recovered, More like when), and it shows the Democrats were in on it from the beginning. Rep. Elijah Cummings has already been accused of getting the IRS to go after conservative groups2.
If this scandal runs as deep and wide as I hope it does, it could destroy not only Obama, but the Democrat Party. It’s hard to rule govern when you’re sitting in a jail cell after all. using the excuse that “The dog at my homework, email, computer, isn’t going to work.
