Ray Nagin gets 10 years

Good day all. Do any of you remember former mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin? He was the mayor when the city was hit by Hurricane Katrina. Now if all you remember of that event was the blame that President George Bush got, you can be excused. After all, the media did such a fine job covering up what really happened.

However, this is not about Ray Nagin’s ideas on disaster planning, (Which consisted of letting everyone drown), this is about the traditional corruption that Nagin engaged in. It was the usual stuff, and Ray “Chocolate City” Nagin was caught and prosecuted. Well, he was recently convicted and now, “Chocolate City” Ray will henceforth be known as “Chocolate Prison” Ray. Here are a few details from Fox News:

Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his conviction on bribery, money laundering and other corruption charges. Prosecutors said the actions for which he was convicted spanned his two terms as mayor — including the chaotic years after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005.

Nagin was convicted Feb. 12 of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars from businessmen who wanted work from the city or Nagin’s support for various projects. The bribes came in the form of money, free vacation trips and truckloads of free granite for his family business.

Well, it isn’t what he should have gotten of course. Truthfully, he and the governor at the time, Kathleen Blanco should have been charged with mass murder after the fiasco that occurred before, during and after Katrina. Who can forget the “Ray Nagin Yellow Submarine Fleet” made up of hundreds of school buses that were supposed to be used to evacuate people in the event of a hurricane? Instead, people were left to their own devices and since most of them were members of the “Free Stuff army” and expected the government to take care of them, mostly they drowned.

Goodbye Ray. I hope you get a nice cellmate who thinks you have a “Right purty mouth.” New Orleans is a lot better off with you making little rocks out of big ones.
