Good day all. Yesterday we found out that another Dallas nurse had come down with Ebola. She has since been moved to the CDC in Atlanta for treatment. I know that we all hope that she has a full and speedy recovery. One of the issues is that the nurse got on a plane and flew from Dallas to Ohio and back while she had a fever.
It has since come out that the nurse DID call the CDC about this several times and was cleared buy some blithering idiot to fly. Now the CDC is asking anyone who traveled on the Frontier Airlines flights to call in for a check up. They apparently are not going to get the airline’s flight manifest for those two flights and start contacting them on their own. No, that would be the competent thing to do and as we’re seeing, competence has left the building with regards to the Centers for Disease Control.

Meanwhile, the State Department is still processing visa’s from West Africa, where Ebola is rampaging out of control. Here are the details from The Daily Signal:
Despite the outbreak of Ebola, it is still possible to get a visa from the three West African countries at the heart of the outbreak, and a key congressman is demanding to know why. Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., chairman of the House Foreign Relations Committee, sent a sternly worded letter to Secretary of State John Kerry about the Obama administration’s handling of the Ebola epidemic in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
And I have no doubt that Secretary of State John “Liveshot” Kerry will get right back to him on that.
Royce said he was “deeply concerned” U.S. embassies in those countries were continuing to process visas for non-U.S. nationals despite the outbreak of the deadly disease.
Deeply concerned? How about absolutely furious, which describes the emotional state of anyone who learns that we haven’t shut down travel to and from West Ebola Africa. Currently the embassies are processing something like 100 people per day. Granted, they don’t all get approved, but all it takes is just one getting through and before you know it, we could have Ebola in the United States. Oh wait! We already do!

As I’ve written about previously, the director of the Centers fro Disease Control, Tom Frieden refuses to consider imposing a full ban on traveling to and from West Africa. He came up with the lame excuse that it might prevent emergency medical services from reaching the disaster areas and also drive those infected with Ebola underground. This implies that he thinks people infected with Ebola might cross into the United States illegally, so it’s better that we allow all these sick people to fly in, coughing, sneezing and vomiting all over the other passengers and crew. That way they can be treated when they arrive.

Other countries aren’t listening to the CDC and they are closing down travel to and from West Africa. Currently South Africa has shut down travel to the Hot Zones, and several nations in the Caribbean have also announced that people from West Africa aren’t allowed to visit. I believe several European airlines have ceased operations to and from West Africa.

Over the last few weeks, since Thomas Duncan arrived from Africa and later died from Ebola, people have been saying “Institute a travel ban!” The Obola Obama Administration has been trotting out all sorts of people saying that it would make things worse in Africa. Guess what? I don’t care! No one anywhere else on Earth cares! The only reason people can see, is that it isn’t “Politically Correct” to stop Africans from coming to America. Well guess what? It isn’t all of Africa that we want to stop, it’s only those areas that have a deadly disease that kills up 70% of those who are infected with it rampaging through the population.
In 2005, New Orleans was all but destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Even though the local officials, (Ray Nagin, currently serving 10 years for corruption, and Kathleen Blanco current whereabouts not known), utterly botched the evacuation and immediate aftermath, it was President GW Bush who was hammered for the slow response. Obama has not only botched the response to the first cases of Ebola, he was downplaying the possibility of Ebola even getting to the United States. Bush at least made preparations to deal with Katrina and when things went wrong, moved in more qualified people. Obama? He’s still in “Heck of a job there Brownie!” mode and doesn’t look like he’s going to get out of it. There are a number of people starting to say that this could be Obama’s Katrina. If more people become infected, particularly if they are infected by new arrivals from West Africa, then Obama is toast.

The best way, the proven way to minimize the risk of a pandemic is to stop people from leaving the Hot Zones until such time as they are cleared. For Ebola, the risk is something like 21 days after exposure. If you make it a month, you are free of the disease and can travel. Pretending that nothing is wrong is not the way to prevent a plague. Ban travel from West Africa NOW!
