Good day all. Last month, a story in Rolling Stone magazine exploded across the nation. In the story, written by Sabrina Rubin Erdely, a woman known as “Jackie” accused a University of Virginia fraternity of gang raping her.
Almost immediately, all fraternities on campus were suspended, and calls for new federal laws were made on the floor of congress. There seems to have been one small problem. It looks like the whole thing was made up, and that the alleged attack never happened.
What does appear to have happened was nothing less then a lynching of the fraternity by Sabrina Rubin Erdely and Rolling Stone magazine. Several reporters started looking into the story and right away saw a few things that were not quite kosher. One of the problems was neither the writer nor Rolling Stone made any attempt to contact the fraternity in the story. Then the Washington Post started digging into it and the whole thing fell apart. According to the Washington Post:
The U-Va. fraternity where the attack was alleged to have occurred has said it has been working with police and has concluded that the allegations are untrue. Among other things, the fraternity said there was no event at the house the night the attack was alleged to have happened.
There are more details on the Washington Post’s investigation and I strongly recommend that you read it. When the Post’s story came out, and basically blew up the Rolling Stone article, Rolling Stone was forced to issue a retraction. The retraction listed a number of problems with the original story, and frankly indicates either utter incompetence on the management and editorial staff of Rolling Stone, or a willful blindness to the gaping holes in the story due to their desire to destroy a fraternity. Here are a few key sections from the Rolling Stone’s “Note to our Readers.”
Because of the sensitive nature of Jackie’s story, we decided to honor her request not to contact the man she claimed orchestrated the attack on her nor any of the men she claimed participated in the attack for fear of retaliation against her.
They didn’t try to reach the “accused” and at least give them a chance at a rebuttal? Where the Hell were the Rolling Stones lawyers? This woman had just made an accusation, that if it had been true, should have gotten a number of people arrested and deservedly so.
In the months Erdely spent reporting the story, Jackie neither said nor did anything that made Erdely, or Rolling Stone‘s editors and fact-checkers, question Jackie’s credibility.
What were these “Fact-Checkers doing? Vacationing in Rio or something?
We reached out to both the local branch and the national leadership of the fraternity where Jackie said she was attacked. They responded that they couldn’t confirm or deny her story but had concerns about the evidence.
Of course they had concerns about the evidence for a simple reason. There was none.
In the face of new information, there now appear to be discrepancies in Jackie’s account,
Gee, ya think? Dumbass.
and we have come to the conclusion that our trust in her was misplaced.
Well, how about that so called journalist who wrote this hit piece? Weren’t you the least bit concerned that she hadn’t done the normal due diligence expected of a “journalist” when they write about someone who was the victim of a horrendous crime? No, instead you saw a chance to tear down a university and it’s fraternities that might not be as “Progressive” as you want them to be.
You learned NOTHING from what happened to the Duke University men who were also accused of rape, only to find out the whole thing was a false accusation and that the DA wanted to railroad three innocent men into prison for a crime that never happened. And what are you doing about this mess?
We are taking this seriously and apologize to anyone who was affected by the story.
If these people that were accused of this vicious crime are in any way harmed by your bogus story, that apology isn’t going to cut it. I can see any number of lawyers just salivating at suing you into oblivion.
Rape is a horrible, evil crime, and I have no problem staking out the perpetrators on an ant hill, filled with fire ants, and smothering them with honey, then castrating them and hanging them up on a cross until they die a slow and hideous death. On the other hand, as far as I’m concerned, any woman who makes a false accusation like this should be prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law and thrown so far into jail they need to FedEx the light in. These lying cows do tremendous harm to those women who have been attacked and they need to be shut down hard and crushed like the insect they are.
As for the writer, Sabrina Rubin Erdely, she should be banned from any publication with an iota of integrity. In my opinion, the only thing that Sabrina Rubin Erdely should be saying from now on is “Would you like fries with your order?”
