Should universities divest from energy stocks?

Good day all. Here’s an interesting question. Should collages and universities have the managers of their endowment funds divest from fossil fuel producing companies?

Hippie

This is an interesting question, especially since the Moonbat Brigades are demanding that their universities essentially wreck their financial infrastructures. Here are a few details from Fox News:

Environmental activists are pressuring universities around the country to “divest” and stop all investment in fossil fuels. Many are taking heed, and more than a dozen universities — among them Stanford and Syracuse — have already promised to stop all such investments. But around 50 others, such as Harvard, Yale, and the University of Colorado, have decided not to.

The-Good-Idea-Fairy-3

The radical, anti-human environmentalists, and that is what they are, won’t be making up the losses to those universities they force to divest. They’ve managed to browbeat a few lily-livered, weak kneed universities into basically cutting their own financial throats. However, even though most, if not all of these universities are run by Liberal Progressive Moonbats, the fund managers are a different breed. They will go into the meetings after the environmentalist whackos have left and tell them exactly what it will cost them to sell off their energy stocks and buy into the “Green” agenda. Considering that most of the major green companies have already gone bust, and most of the rest are surviving only due to subsidies, it will be an easy choice for the University trustees and administrators.

On Thursday, New York University’s faculty senate will vote on whether to strip its $3.5 billion endowment fund of fossil fuel investments. The controversial measure is supported by some environmentalists, but critics say that it would needlessly cost the school money.

foreward over the cliff

Of course it will. It might even start the endowment into a downward spiral. Now, I have no idea what NYU’s money managers are doing, but they have a fiduciary duty to maximize the income from their investments and minimize the risks. The Moonbats? They don’t have a clue. They are nothing more than seagulls. The fly in, make a lot of noise, crap all over everything, then fly away to make a mess somewhere else. Now the good news is not everyone agrees with the Barking Moonbats.

An NYU faculty working group studying the issue recommends that the university keep its fossil fuel investments due to financial reasons. “In order to eliminate the $139 million in fossil fuel investments, NYU would have to [end] relationships with 39 funds… this [is] not financially prudent,” their report concluded.

Not financially prudent is an understatement. Outright disaster is more like it. The funds they are speaking about are investment groups. They pick and choose stocks, bonds and other investments. Their goal is to protect their clients principle and maximize their dividends. One of the groups of stocks they buy are energy stocks. Why? Because that’s where the money is. Even the students understand this. (Mostly)

This is about making a feel-good statement. But the university is the one that has to pay for it. This would mean forgoing millions in funding for scholarships and facilities,” NYU junior Eli Nachmany told FoxNews.com.

And you have just described the typical Progressive Liberal Moonbat. It’s not about actually accomplishing anything, it’s about making themselves feel good. It doesn’t matter if what they want to do will work or not.

Economists also say that divestment will not hurt oil company stocks because, when a university sells its fossil-fuel stock and the price falls, independent traders see that the stock has become undervalued and snap it up.

Yeah, independent traders like me. Buy low and sell high is generally how it works.

But supporters say their goal is simply to send a message.

What? That they don’t have a clue about what it takes to make and power their Ipads?

The point is not really to devalue the stock, rather to make a statement to those companies, our students, and those who might be paying attention (including you!) that it is prudent to wean ourselves off of fossil fuels. It is a tactic, a means of calling attention to the problem,” David Frank, NYU assistant professor of environmental studies, told FoxNews.com. He added that it’s needed due to a looming danger of climate change.

Barking Moonbat

And the answer to my question is a resounding NOPE! I’m sure they think that unicorn farts are what powers their Ipads, Iphones and the factories to make those things. Guess what dumb dumbs. Those things are made in China and they would either laugh at you, or send you off to a labor camp for some real “reeductation.” Or they would simply put you under, harvest your organs and sell them on the black market. You won’t need them rotting in a pit somewhere. Idiots.

The poorest people in the world (particularly in low-lying areas) will suffer the most if we do not take action on climate change… that calls for any tactic that might call attention to the problem,” Frank said.

Well, here comes the mantra from the Church of Global Warming Climate Change, Algore Be Praised, Algore Akbar! How about we explain a few facts to these walking aneurysms? The best way for the people in those third world hellholes to advance is cheap energy. Cheap energy allows for factories, it allows for systems to provide clean water, all sorts of things. Oh wait, I forgot. The Moonbats don’t care about all those dirty little brown people. They just want to feel good about “Saving the planet!”

Well the news coming from all these university endowment funds doesn’t bode well for the Moonbats. I just read over at Hot Air that Swathmore, which had just concluded a 30 day sit in, made it look like they would agree with the knotheads demands. Well, they looked at the bottom line and decided that bankruptcy wasn’t the way to proceed. They’re keeping their fossil fuel investments. The Moonbats are heartbroken. They thought they had won. Personally, I would have kicked them out on their asses, but then I’m a mean, nasty old Webmaster. (Well, not old)

wambulance

Until reliable clean sources of energy are invented, we’re stuck with gas, coal and oil. Maybe when they finally figure out fusion we can start ditching fossil fuels. Oh who am I kidding? These jerks would protest that! I saw take them into the deep woods of Alaska, strip them naked, give them a flint knife and send them on their way. Let them see what life is like without modern conveniences and their Ipads.
