Half of Obamacare state exchanges going broke

Good day all. We haven’t talked about Obamacare much of late. There is a court case that could drive a stake through the heart of that hated program, and people have just found out that the refunds they expect won’t be coming since the IRS confiscated them.

Obamacare, Shovel Ready

The other problem, one that knowledgeable people, (Which leaves out that fraud Jonathon Gruber), said would happen. Obamacare’s financial number just didn’t make sense. Well, in a report from The Washington Post, it’s being reported that half the exchanges are in big fiscal trouble. Here are the details:

Nearly half of the 17 insurance marketplaces set up by the states and the District under President Obama’s health law are struggling financially, presenting state officials with an unexpected and serious challenge five years after the passage of the landmark Affordable Care Act.

obamacare trainwreck

Unexpected? Who are they kidding. Everyone and their mother was screaming about how this thing wasn’t going to work, but the Progressive Liberal Fascist Democrats along with their lapdogs in the Media wouldn’t listen.

Many of the online exchanges are wrestling with surging costs, especially for balky technology and expensive customer call centers — and tepid enrollment numbers.

Gee, why would people not enroll in Obamacare? It was going to save everyone money, no one would get sick and the lollipop trees would be blooming all year long. The answer to this problem of insolvency is typical of big government statists. Loot businesses and taxpayers.

To ease the fiscal distress, officials are considering raising fees on insurers, sharing costs with other states and pressing state lawmakers for cash infusions.

As always, just tap the money tree that are the taxpayers and businesses. Or, perhaps they can do something else.

Some are weighing turning over part or all of their troubled marketplaces to the federal exchange, HealthCare.gov, which now works smoothly.

I’m not so sure about it working smoothly. The last I heard, the security for the site along with the payment systems weren’t up to speed. And then there is that court case I mentioned. If the Supreme Idiots Court rules that the law means what it says, all those people dumped back into the federal exchange lose their subsidies.

The latest challenges come at a critical time. With two enrollment periods completed, the law has sharply reduced the number of uninsured and is starting to force change in the nation’s sprawling health-care system.

No, it hasn’t lowered the uninsured rates. What it did do was force people of the plans they liked and forced them onto crappy, overpriced plans that don’t do what their original plans did for them.

But the law remains highly controversial…

Ya think? It’s outright hated by the majority of people. We didn’t want it, but you thugs, (Oh wait!! I just used a racist code word!!) in Washington shoved it down out throats anyway.

…and faces another threat: The Supreme Court will decide by the end of June whether consumers in the 34 states using the federal exchange will be barred from receiving subsidies to buy insurance.

That will pretty much kill obamacare. Aside from the subsidies, I believe it also kills the mandates as well for those states that didn’t set up, or gave up on their own exchanges. No mandate means people forced into Obamacare can ditch the crappy insurance, and they will.

If the court strikes down subsidies in the federal exchange, the states that are struggling financially might be less likely to turn over all operations to the federal marketplace, because they will want to make sure their residents do not lose subsidies to help them buy insurance.

And watch their exchanges go under or the state go bankrupt. The only way they won’t fail, if the states keep them running, is to jack up the state tax rates to unsustainable levels.

If the court upholds subsidies for the federal exchange, some states might step up efforts to transfer operations to HealthCare.gov.

Now this is another issue. If the USSC rules in favor of Obama, they will have essentially rewritten the law from the bench. The last time they pulled that, (Thanks Roberts), people were furious. This time, it might raise to levels that would make what’s happening in Baltimore look like a mild spring party. But, that’s a story for another day.

Another issue is that if the courts do the right thing and rule against Obama, Obamacare will start it’s death spiral. According to Fox News, they don’t have a backup plan:

Obama administration officials have suggested they have no alternative plan if the subsidies are struck down, while some Republican lawmakers have begun crafting their own alternatives.

speaker of deceit

One problem with the Party of Stupid is that some of these clods are thinking of “fixing” the wording of the law to allow the subsidies. If they do that, then it’s time to take a large blunt object and introduce it to a few RINO knees.

The president’s signature law still remains highly controversial. A recent Fox News Poll found that 42 percent of respondents said that they are worse off because of ObamaCare, with only 33 percent saying the health care situation was better since the law was passed in 2010.

And 60+ percent want it repealed. Obamacares is collapsing as we all knew it would. Now is the time to kill it once and for all while we can come up with a way to actually help those who actually need help.
