Good day all. I just completed binge watching the new NetFlix series, Jessica Jones. The series is part of the Marvel Universe and has some tie ins to NetFlix’s Daredevil.
I would like to say that this was a 5 star series, but I had a lot of issues with it. I’m not at all familiar with the central character, played by Krysten Ritter, which gives me the ability to not get stuck with the Marvel canon and how things are in the comic book back story. I found the story rather interesting, and I think that Ms. Ritter played Jessica Jones quite well.
However, I also found large parts of the series to be rather tedious to me. I think the series could have been a lot better if they dropped one or two hours from it. The creators also downplayed Jessica Jone’s “Super powers,” although I was aware that was going to be the case from the coverage of the series over the last year.
So what’s the verdict? I was reasonably entertained, and I would recommend it. However, it wasn’t worth binge watching it. I could have easily spread this over a week or two. I believe the series has been picked up for a second season, and I have no doubt they will improve things. This was just the “introductory season, where they introduce all the characters and start the various story arcs. I’ll be keeping it in my NetFlix favorites.
