Good day all. The French polls have closed and it’s a nail biting upset. It appears that the establishment types in France have been Trumped by Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron.
The results are preliminary, but the French Conservative candidate, (Which in the United States would put him far to the left of Obama), has conceded and thrown his support to Macron. The Socialists had their heads handed to them, getting 6.2% of the vote.
Both soon to be former president Francois Hollande and the conservative candidate Francois Fillon have also told their supporter to back Macron over Le Pen. I’m not at all surprised at the endorsements by the French Establishment types against Le Pen. They hate her guts with a passion.
I don’t know much about Macron, and all I have to go on is his Wikipedia page. It seems he is a Merkel style open borders type who wants unfettered access by Islamic terrorists to France. He also seems to be a bit of a supporter of the European Union. Please be advised, that I have essentially no information on him. (Nor, being an American, care about him either)
The runoff election is scheduled for May 7th. Until then, expect large displays of French political fireworks. I don’t have a clue on how French politics and campaigning work, but I expect that Marine le Pen is going to slam Macron on his open borders ideas, especially since the latest Islamic terrorist attack last week killed some Paris police officers. I have fresh popcorn in the microwave.
