Good day all. This is the Angry Webmaster with a brief personal update. I have been laid off from my Real World Job of the last 8 years.
I won’t go into details of course, other than to say I wasn’t the only one. Another local member of my group was let go and apparently others in different regions were also laid off.
I was caught somewhat off guard, but not totally. There have been some significant changes in my former company. One is Artificial Intelligence. That may have been one reason we were all let go. I think there may have been another one. My former coworker and I were probably the two highest paid in the group. We were also the oldest.
Now I am big on conspiracy theories, but there is a thing called age discrimination, and I don’t think the company is that stupid. On the money front? Yeah, I do see this a high probability, especially with who wasn’t laid off.
So what now? I’ve already started applying for jobs. I have updated the old resume and I hit the state labor department web site to file for unemployment. What’s really going to hurt is the loss of my health insurance.
Hopefully, I won’t be out of work for 2 years the way I was last time. I’ve already spoken to a recruiter and I expect there to be others as well. I’m hopeful that it won’t be to long this time.
Obviously, I’m stressed out and that may affect my posting, On the flip side, maybe adsense might actually pay something.

Western MI U in Kalamazoo desperately needs IT personnel, but much like all the other “government” employers in this region, do not offer competitive wages so no one takes up the offers.
BTDT and was out of work 9 months in early 1990’s, changed fields from electronics to railroad equipment to survive.
Best of luck (means effort pays), you do have far more resources to reach potential employers that ever existed in the 1990’s.
I’ve already applied to over a dozen openings. 2 rejections, which I suspect was already having hired someone. Also talked with a recruiter, not that I expect anything from them.
As for Michigan? Yeah, not moving there until they clean out the trash running that state.

Sadly the pile is large and concentrated in Detroitistan and Lansing liberal swamps. We shall see. Aug 4 is primary vote day and I am pushing all in my circle to go vote.
