Good day all. Enough with politics, it’s time for me to vent about something for a change. In this case, it’s why I hate Shaws Market.

Shaws is a regional supermarket chain in New England. There is one within walking distance from the Anger Central Primary Dwelling. It tends to have higher prices then other chains, such as MarketBasket, but it’s handier.
However, of late, things have been sliding downhill and fast. I was in there earlier this week to pick up two simple items. A loaf of bread and some milk. That was it. I did wander around a bit to see if there was anything else I needed, and since there wasn’t, I headed to the checkout counters.
Like most large supermarkets, they have a number of checkout counters. They also have several automated checkouts as well. Now here is where my frustration levels went through the roof. They had 3 lanes open, and there were at least 4 people waiting in each lane, all of them with carts piled high with overpriced groceries. Since I only had 2 items, I looked at the 10 items or less lanes. They were shut down.

I stood there for a minute looking at the lines and then decided that I would give the automated checkout another try. I say another try because I’ve never had any luck with those things. They always screw up and lock up on me when I try to use them. I don’t even get to the point of paying for my groceries.
Well guess what? Those pieces of junk continued batting 1000. Once again, the damn things screwed up on me and wanted me to get someone to come over and help. The problem was, THERE WAS NO ONE THERE! Shaws has a bad habit of short staffing that store. I got fed up, and simply walked out in frustration.
I’ve been to another one that is much nicer, has better selections and, guess what? Whenever I go there, it has a full staff available. The other supermarket I go to, MarketBasket, also generally has fully manned checkout counters. Their prices are also generally lower as well, and they have a much larger selection of craft beer.

The problem with this, is they aren’t handy to the Anger Central Primary Dwelling. The one that I normally go to, when I’m doing a lot of shopping, is actually on the way to my Real World Job. At times, I will simply head in there on the way home from work.

A few years ago, it looked like MarketBasket was going to go under. There was a major fight within the family that owns the chain. Since that has been resolved, MarketBasket has only gotten better, while Shaws, at least the one near the Anger Central primary Dwelling, has gone down the drain. Frankly, I hope they do go under. I think that location would be a great for MarketBasket.
