Tech updates, another new phone for the Webmaster

Hey there everyone, It’s the Angry Systems Administrator. Once again, I have managed to pick the locks on the data center and come out into the light. It’s a good thing too. The Angry Webmaster has gone and bought himself a new phone.

I will say that he at least didn’t go and buy one of the Chinese models, the ones that are loaded with spyware. He stuck with the LG series. His last phone was an LG G6, and he just upgraded to an LG G8. I will say that it is a nice upgrade. He also got a decent deal, with it marked down a good $400 from MSRP.

As expected, the moron can’t figure out how to make it work so he’s asked me to set it up for him. The first thing I did was order a holster and case for the phone, and a new SD card. Those should be arriving shortly. I’ve used the built in features to transfer his apps and data to the new phone, however not all of it went over. He keeps a lot on the SD card, and since I didn’t have a card ready…

Meanwhile, I’ve been exploring the new phone. It’s nice. The SCoaMF’s old LG G6 had 32GB of memory in it, and he was constantly trying to keep it from maxing out. (A lot of his apps can’t be moved to an SD card sadly) The new phone has 128GB of built in storage space. It also has twice the ram as the old phone.

While it isn’t connected to our new phone service, Mint Mobile, I have plugged it into our Wi-Fi network. I will say that it is a lot smoother than the G6, which was a lot smoother then the Blithering Idiot’s G4. The extra ram does make the phone a lot more responsive, and of course, new technology.

When the phone first came out, I recall looking at it, but when I saw the asking price I walked away rapidly. I couldn’t see paying almost $900 for it, even with the better performance and hardware. I suspect the reason it’s come down is that the G9 is going to show up soon. No doubt, it too will be overpriced.

One of the big changes is where LG has put the buttons. Right off the bat, they took the power switch and put it on the right hand side, where you can thumb it on. I heartily approve that change. Reaching around to push the power button to activate the screen has always been annoying to me, and frankly, dangerous.

If you’re driving and you need to turn on the screen, reaching around behind the phone while it’s in it’s carrier was very distracting. Just reaching up and clicking it, (With the index finger if you are right handed) is so much easier and safer too. (Remember, use hands free kits and NO TEXTING WHILE DRIVING!!)

***Note***

I discovered the “KnockOn feater while finishng up the configurations. tap the front panel twice and the screen comes on. Another plus as far as I’m concerned, provided the mental midget doesn’t use a hammer on it

While I was working on this post, the new holster and SD card arrived and have been installed. The Mental midget was out for the day with the Angry Girlfriend, (Why someone so nice, smart and pretty stays with him is beyond me), and I installed them. Once they came back, (Day trip to Mount Washington. The Angry Girlfriend wanted to rid the Cog Railway), I took his phone and complete the transfer.

Thanks to Mint Mobile, the phone picked up the SIM card with no issues. A test call went right through. The only thing left to do on the phone is reconfiguring the two factor authentication tools that the little pissant uses at his Real World Job. That will require the I.T. department there to help him. Meanwhile, he has his old phone with him. It still works with WiFi.

If you are looking for a new phone, I think the LG G8 is probably what you need. I’ve looked at the reviews from various tech sites, and when they start comparing the different phones with each other on appearance and not technology, it’s time to just use your best judgment

Thank you
