Elon Musk drops the Twitter Files, Part 1.

Good day all. Last night, Elon Musk began to make good on his promise to release the internal documents regarding the cover-up of Hunter Biden’s laptop. The information was given to Matt Taibbi who then released a long Twitter thread on some of what was in the documents.

The story was supposed to be released at 5PM Eastern Standard Time, but was delayed, apparently to make sure that they had their facts straight. The tweet thread was release around 6:40PM EST. The early parts seem to indicate that then CEO Jack Dorsey was not part of the decision to bury the New York Post’s story on the laptop, and that it was lower down the food chain. Many sites are putting all the details up and it’s slamming around Twitter like a cannon ball ricocheting inside a Pachinko machine. Here are some of the details from the Post Millennial:

Elon Musk announced on Friday that that “What really happened with the Hunter Biden story suppression by Twitter will be published on Twitter at 5pm ET!” And then he spilled the tea.

Tea? Most be some new modern phrase replacing “Spilled the beans.”

Musk then forwarded a twitter thread from Mike Taibbi.

The thread reads:

“What you’re about to read is the first installment in a series, based upon thousands of internal documents obtained by sources at Twitter.

“The ‘Twitter Files’ tell an incredible story from inside one of the world’s largest and most influential social media platforms. It is a Frankensteinian tale of a human-built mechanism grown out the control of its designer.

“Twitter in its conception was a brilliant tool for enabling instant mass communication, making a true real-time global conversation possible for the first time.

“In an early conception, Twitter more than lived up to its mission statement, giving people “the power to create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers.

“Slowly, over time, Twitter staff and executives began to find more and more uses for these tools. Outsiders began petitioning the company to manipulate speech as well: first a little, then more often, then constantly.

“By 2020, requests from connected actors to delete tweets were routine. One executive would write to another: ‘More to review from the Biden team.’ The reply would come back: ‘Handled.’

I will post a link to the full thread further down. I’ve read through it and it shows that Twitter internally had far to many people who had no idea of or cared about the 1st Amendment, the Constitution or Freedom of Speech. While it appears that Dorsey didn’t know about this initially, his second tier managers, such as former head of the Legal, Policy and Trust group, Vijaya Gadde, were in this up to their totalitarian eyeballs.

She was one of the first people fired by Elon Musk when he assumed control of Twitter. There is an awful lot going on regarding all this, and lawsuits are already being prepared. (More on that in another post) I have a suspicion that Gadde and the others who censored the Laptop story are gong to be spending a lot of time in court rooms facing civil suits. Considering what appears to be going on behind the scenes in Twitter, criminal charges might also be in the offing.

The reactions to the first release of the Twitter Files has been interesting. As I mentioned, lawsuits are already being filed. There have been others who have said that most of what had been released was already known, and that Musk was holding things back.

That musk may be holding things back is likely for a few reasons. First, his team may have found things that crossed some very big lines and could lead to criminal charges against a number of people who were involved in this. He has a duty to protect the chain of evidence and avoid tainting any potential jury pool if indictments are handed down in the future.

Another reason is Musk is a bit of a story teller and any good story teller wants to give out just enough information to make the readers come back for more. I have no doubt at all that millions of people are going to be waiting for Part 2 with bated breath.

“It’s been a whirlwind 96 hours for me, too. There is much more to come, including answers to questions about issues like shadow-banning, boosting, follower counts, the fate of various individual accounts, and more. These issues are not limited to the political right.”

And with that, Matt Taibbi signed off, saying “Good night, everyone. Thanks to all those who picked up the phone in the last few days.”

One of the things that Taibbi said was that the information he was releasing was provided by sources inside Twitter. We all know that the information was all but hand delivered to Matt Taibbi on the instructions of Elon Musk, so why not just say this? Musk is not being an anonymous source, he’s trying to clean up the mess left behind by Jack Dorsey, his successor, Parag Agrawal, along with Vijaya Gadde, CFO Ned Segal and the General Counsel Sean Edgett.

In any case, this is a story that is only going to get bigger as more information is released and the fall out is going to spread a lot further then just Twitter and the people who worked there. Now here is the link to Matt Taibbi’s Twitter thread:
