As you may have guessed, both the Angry Systems Administrator and myself are big readers. We both love books and our tastes run the gamut. Of course you might have guessed that from our Amazon store. 😉
Last week Borders went belly up and folded it’s tent. 11,000 people are now out of work with no prospects. ((Thank you Obama)) There’s a lot of opinion pieces out on the web and elsewhere talking about why Borders failed. I’m not going to go into that since I know of someone who has a vested interest in the publishing business. He knows why Borders went under and it may surprise you.
He doesn’t say it was Amazon’s fault or ebooks. He said Borders basically committed Seppuku. Other than the initial paragraph, I’m not going to lift bits from his blog. He put a lot of work writing the entry. Also, he has lots of guns. 😉
I’m going to turn you over to Larry Correia, a highly successful Baen author.
Here is Larry’s explanation on why Borders failed and why he doesn’t care that it did.
Since, as a writer, I’ve been to a LOT of bookstores, people have been asking me my opinion on Border’s closing. I’ve mentioned my feelings about Borders a few times on this blog, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise.
My opinion is Borders did it to themselves.
Pretty rough stuff. This looks like it’s going to be an object lesson in how NOT to run a business. Now I have to go off to Amazon and buy some of Larry’s books. 🙂
