Good day all. The fires in Los Angeles are still burning. The hydrants are still not producing water and the city and state governments are continuing to double and triple down on their stupidity. Many fire departments have either sent personnel and equipment or have offered it.
The problem is that the idiots in charge are turning that help away. Here are the details from Town Hall:
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has rejected assistance from one of the country’s more prominent fire departments despite the city grappling with an ongoing shortage of firefighters to battle the wildfires still raging across the city, burning iconic buildings, restaurants, and residents’ homes.
As the blazes continue to threaten homes and communities, many question the decision to turn down additional help, especially from one of the country’s most renowned fire departments. With local resources stretched thin, the rejection has sparked frustration among residents and critics who argue that every available hand is needed to contain the disaster.
The current firefighters, even the diversity hires, are working their butts off. They are also becoming exhausted and need to be pulled off the lines to get cleaned, fed and get some sleep. This is where you need additional trained people. It isn’t the logistics of getting the FDNY people to LA, Jet Blue has offered to take them to LA free of charge. (Good on them for doing the right thing) Instead, Bass is just making excuses.
A source suggested that Bass may have hesitated to accept help from the FDNY, noting that fighting wildfires is “a whole different beast” that demands specialized training, unlike the more conventional building fires the department typically handles.
It isn’t that specialized. The NY Firefighters may not be experienced in fighting wildfires, but they are trained people and they can be put with locals who do have the specialized training. It’s not like they’re going to be acting as smokejumpers and parachuting in.
LA Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said the city’s 29 fire departments were not equipped to handle “this kind of widespread disaster.”
“There are not enough firefighters in LA County to address four separate fires of this magnitude,” he said. “The LA County fire department was prepared for one or two major brush fires, but not four, especially given these sustained winds and low humidities.”
I suspect that Chief Marrone would welcome trained firefighters from New York and any other city that offered to send them in. That Mayor Karen Basshole is refusing the offers for help isn’t just stupid, it’s criminal. Mayor Basshole is about halfway through her current, and I suspect only term.
I won’t be at all surprised if she isn’t recalled and booted from office. Her incompetence has cost hundreds of millions of dollars in damage and probably cost a few lives. Sadly, she’s a typical Kalifornistan Progressive Liberal Democrat. Stupid, Woke, Incompetent. Still, even the idiots in LA might decide that there are levels of incompetence that can’t be tolerated. We shall see.

If nothing else, the NYFD folks could relieve the folks ‘in the rear with the gear’ to provide protection in districts where the staffing is bare bones.
There’s also the point that providing certain types of prevention of the spread of fire translates well, in urban and suburban areas, no matter what the initial source of the blaze might be.
Finally, a fair number of NYFD fighters are also familiar with drafting salt water to fight pier side blazes.
There are also the reports of all the fire trucks held up in I think San Francisco while they all received a safety check. If I recall correctly, they only had a few people with the equipment who could do the inspections.
