Good day all. It’s time to put politics and world events aside for now and deal with something far more important. Birds. Specifically, parakeets. As in two of the noisy little f***ers.
Last weekend, She Who Must Be Obeyed came home from her work. The security camera’s pinged and I saw that she was pulling stuff out of her car. Not an unusual situation. When I got to the front door, there was a very large, covered square object on the porch. When I opened the door to greet the better half, and wonder what she had brought home this time, I noticed that the object was some sort of cage.
When she brought it in, I heard a Chirp come from it and a feeling of deep dread came over me.
She announced that her boss had given her a pair of birds and with that, she took the cover off and there they were. Two little parakeets looking rather annoyed with where they now were.

My first question was why? SWMBO responded that her boss had bought three birds but the expensive one was fighting with the two cheaper birds and she needed to get rid of them. SWMBO’s innate hoarder instinct kicked in, (She grew up in Mao’s China so she had almost nothing), and she decided to take them.
This surprised me as SWMBO is not someone who has any interests in pets. In fact, she has a known antipathy towards animals unless she’s cooking them. I have seen her duck around me when we’re out walking and someone comes up with a small dog on a leash. When I say small, I mean one you could punt across the street. (Not that you should. In fact, I would stop you if you did) SWMBO thinks that dogs and cats will eat her.

Oh well, what’s done is done. She might decide to get rid of them in a month or so, or so she claims. I generally ignore them. Of course, there is a small issue with noise. These damn birds can and do chirp up a storm. Since I work at home in my Real World Job, this can get annoying. SWMBO commutes to her job every day so she doesn’t deal with them. She does feed them and makes sure they have water. I also told her that there was no way I was cleaning out that cage and it was all on her. She is fine with this.
So, there you have it. I have a pair of loud, annoying birds in the Anger Central Primary Dwelling that I do not want. Perhaps SWMBO will tire of them and arrange a new home for them. As for me? Does anyone have a cat I can borrow for a few days? Preferably with nice claws and sharp, pointy teeth?
