Trump trolling Canada, Suggests renaming Lake Ontario

Good day all. Recently, there has been a bit of a trade war kicking off between Canada and the United States. That is a complicated issue, and not what I’m writing about now. It looks like President Trump has released his inner troll again and aimed it at Canada,

Recently, President Trump decided to take a shot at Iran, and said that the Strait of Hormuz was now the property of the United States. No one took it seriously except the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corpse. Now President Trump has done it again. He floated the idea of renaming Lake Ontario Lake America. Here are the details from Newsmax:

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he is considering changing the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” as the trade war between the United States and Canada intensifies.

Such a change would be reminiscent of the Republican president’s unilateral action last year by executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

That one was real and frankly, long overdue. It’s the United States that patrols the Gulf of America. Mexico, outside of it’s territorial waters, doesn’t.

“The United States is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in that we don’t expect to doing much business with Ontario any longer,” Trump said Tuesday on social media.

I believe this came after the Ontario provincial government said they were going to cut off oil and electricity into the United States. (That would be an exceptionally dumb idea on their part. They need us more than we need them)

The rhetoric between the two countries is escalating, with Trump telling Canadian leaders Monday to “fall in line” or face consequences “far WORSE” than existing tariffs. Prime Minister Mark Carney has accused Washington of trying to subordinate Canada.

Now the reason for all this is that Canada has been cheating on previous trade agreements. They have been importing Chinese products, slapping a coat of paint and a “Made in Canada” sticker on them and shipping them to the United States. The agreements specify that made in Canada means actually manufactured there from Canadian materials in Canadian factories. They’ve been getting away with this for decades and President Trump said “Enough! Play by the rules or else!”

In any case, this isn’t a serious proposal. It’s just President Trump once again saying something designed to really annoy another country. This of course, also annoys the usual snobs and elitists who had been running American foreign and trade policy, (Right into the ground), for decades. However, if it gets results, then it’s a good idea. It’s also funny how thin skinned so many elitists, both here and abroad, actually are.
