Why can’t we just shoot these scum?

What am I talking about you ask? I just read an article on Fox News about a former guest of ours who vacationed at Guantanamo on the tax payers dime getting killed.

“Getting killed? You mean he was killed in Guantanamo by those war criminal guards?”

No you blithering idiot. I mean he was let go and promptly went back into the happy hands of Al Qaeda and started shooting at our troops…again. In this case, one Sabar Lal Melma was sent to fornicate with his 72 virgin goats September 2nd 2011 after he resisted arrest.

From Fox News:

Troops surrounded Melma’s house in Jalalabad city on Friday night and shot him dead when he emerged from the building holding an AK-47 assault rifle. Several other people were detained.

Ok, now the first question is, Why the HELL was he let go in the first place? By rights he should have been stood in front of a wall and ventilated, or if he wasn’t worth the price of bullets, given the short drop ((What is the “Short Drop?”)) then tossed into the Caribbean for the sharks to dine on.

No, instead he was released and allowed to go back to Afghanistan and indulge in some Jihad Action against our forces.

So why was this sexual abuser of Capra aegagrus hircus ((That would be goats for those of you in Rio Linda)) picked up in the first place? According to the Fox News report:

After the fall of the Taliban, Melma, 49, was given the rank of brigadier general and placed in charge of approximately 600 border security troops in Konar province, according to his military file made public by WikiLeaks.

He was captured in August 2002 while attending a meeting with U.S. military officials in Asadabad and transferred to the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay in October that same year. He was suspected of helping carry out rocket attacks against U.S. troops.

While imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, the U.S. determined he was a “probable facilitator for Al Qaeda members” and was also thought to have links to Pakistan’s intelligence service.

Nice guy. So how the heck did he get out? According to the Long War Journal:

Melma was transferred to Afghanistan on Sept. 28, 2007. According to a leaked threat assessment, Joint Task Force Guantanamo (JTF-GTMO) identified Melma as a “medium risk,” who “may pose a threat to the US, its interests and allies.”

In the leaked file, dated June 3, 2005, JTF-GTMO recommended that Melma be “transferred to the control of another country for continued detention.” JTF-GTMO previously recommended that Melma be retained in US custody. Like many former Guantanamo detainees approved for transfer to Afghanistan, however, Melma was released at some point after his repatriation.

So once again, someone dropped the ball. This has been the whole problem with the War on Terror since September 12th 2001. We’ve been to concerned with not hurting the feelings of our enemies and trying to introduce democracy to these barbarians.

Thanks to George W. Bush’s complete wimpiness with regards to dealing with RIF’s ((Radical Islamic Fundamentalists)) and his refusal to tell the Judicial branch to stay out of military business, we have been treating these scum with kid gloves. The results were predictable. We should have completely crushed the Taliban and Al Qaeda by now.

Instead, we’ve gotten bogged down in Afghanistan and Iraq, our erstwhile “allies” are actually aiding our enemies. ((Did Pakistan help hide bin Laden?)) , ((Pakistan Aiding Taliban Attacks in Afghanistan)) Personally I agree with our invasion of Iraq, but I have serious problems with the aftermath. The appointment of Paul Bremer was a big mistake. He was not a competent administrator and really blew a number of opportunities.

Getting back to the discussion, what should have happened with these “fighters” was summery execution after strenuous interrogation. They are not covered by the international agreements on captured soldiers. ((Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War)) They do not follow the Geneva and Hague conventions or even make the attempt to do so.

However, our old friends at the ACLU and their pals on the Federal Bench stuck their treasonous noses into how the war was being handled and demanded that captured terrorist be treated like American citizens arrested for traffic violations. Bush caved in and allowed lawyers into the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay. What he should have done was refuse, tell the left wing judges making these rulings that they were out of bounds and ordered the military to shoot down any plane loaded with lawyers trying to land at Gitmo. ((Shorthand for Guantanamo Bay))

Now we’re dealing with the aftermath of all these bad decisions. How many people are going to be killed because of the political cowardice of the Bush family? Eventually, we will lose a city and suffer 10’s of thousands killed. When that happens, you will see a sea change in how Americans think about the rest of the world. Then a large segment will be turned into radioactive glass. ((Trinitite))

In my opinion, we need to start clearing out Gitmo and fattening up some sharks. This won’t happen as long as we have President “I vote Present” Obama, and probably won’t happen with the people now seeking the office. Of course, once Obama is out, the next president might surprise us and bring the War on Terror to a successful and victorious conclusion.

We shall see.
