Second investigation of Ilhan Omar opened

Good day all. Recently, the home of Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Somalia), was raided by DHS’s Homeland Security Investigators, (HSI), who are looking into her actual immigration status. When I wrote about this, I had some questions on what they were looking for and thought it was actually about her finances.

I was mistaken. It was about her immigration status. Apparently, there is some question on her actual birth date and when she was granted her citizenship. She claimed it was when she was 17 and was under her father’s application, which would have been lawful.

However, if she was actually 18, then she would have been an adult and not legally entitled to apply for citizenship under her father and would have had to do so herself. Long story short, if this is accurate, and she lied about her actual birth date, Ilhan Omar is not a citizen and can not be an elected member of congress.

Still, there are the questions regarding her finances. Now a new and separate investigation has been opened into that question. Here are those details from Fox News:

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro revealed Tuesday that her office is investigating Rep. Ilhan Omar’s financial disclosures, opening a new chapter in the controversy surrounding the Minnesota Democrat’s previously reported multimillion-dollar assets.

Speaking on Fox News’ “America Reports,” Pirro said her office was examining Omar’s financial disclosures, which previously showed that the reported value of businesses tied to her husband, Tim Mynett, had surged from as much as $51,000 in 2023 to as much as $30 million in 2024.

That sudden increase, coming on the heels of all the fraud being uncovered in Minnesota, made a lot of people think that Omar may have benefited in some way. Even Pelosi, who made millions with insider information, didn’t have that kind of a windfall. Apparently, Omar realized how bad this looked and submitted an “Updated” report indicating that “No, I’m actually almost broke.” The problem for Omar is that no one believes her.

The disclosures drew scrutiny from congressional Republicans, including House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., who requested financial records from two companies tied to Mynett in February.

It wasn’t just the oversight committee that has been digging into Omar’s and her husband’s, (The one who is not her brother), finances.

The original filings, examined by Fox News Digital earlier this year, showed millions of dollars in newly reported assets associated with two of Mynett’s business ventures — a California-based winery and a Washington, D.C.-based venture capital firm.

The winery, eStCru LLC, saw its reported valuation jump from between $15,000 and $50,000 in 2023 to between $1 million and $5 million in 2024. Rose Lake Capital LLC showed an even sharper increase, rising from a reported value of between $1 and $1,000 in 2023 to between $5 million and $25 million the following year.

Combined, the businesses had reported values ranging from approximately $15,000 to $51,000 in 2023, compared with between $6 million and $30 million in 2024.

For that level of increase, it’s not just the Oversight committees and the DoJ who should be interested in this. I think the IRS might want to have a look at those books.

Omar subsequently amended her financial disclosures in April, reducing the couple’s combined reported assets to between $18,004 and $95,000. The revised filing listed her husband’s two businesses as having no net value after accounting for liabilities.

Omar’s office, at the time, said the original disclosures had failed to properly account for liabilities associated with her husband’s businesses, creating what it described as a misleading picture of the couple’s finances.

That set off the person who filled out all the disclosure forms. Basically, she accused him of being incompetent. The problem with that is the person is certified and licensed. (I think he is an accountant/CPA) While it’s possible he may have made a few minor mistakes, the idea that he could make that level of mistake is not credible.

In September, the Office of Congressional Conduct voted 5-1 to recommend that the House Ethics Committee dismiss misconduct allegations stemming from the financial disclosures. The congressional watchdog found there was not substantial reason to believe Omar had reported false or incomplete information in violation of federal law or House rules.

Well, it appears that the Department of Justice disagrees with the Office of Congressional Conduct’s findings. This is why they are opening a criminal investigation. I’m also curious if the Internal Revenue Service might also want to ask Omar and company a few unpleasant questions. It isn’t just the financial disclosure forms that need to be filed, they would also have to file tax forms as well.

Now the question is, what happens next? Who knows? If it’s found that Ilhan Omar misrepresented facts regarding her immigration and eventual citizenship, and it’s proved beyond reasonable doubt, she is out of congress, probably jailed, stripped of her citizenship and expelled from the United States, back to Somalia.

If it’s found she was committing financial crimes, along with her husband? They might get separate rooms in a house of many doors, followed by Omar losing her citizenship and being deported. (I am not sure if a criminal conviction on financial crimes would warrant stripping her citizenship) In any case, I suspect there will be a resolution to all this sometime next year.
