Woman hears her own voice for the first time

Good morning all. Every once in a while I need to stop with the ranting and raving and just put up something nice. In this case it’s a story I just saw on Hot Air. I thought it was just what we needed this morning to start the day.

The woman is Sloan Churman; she’s 29 and has been deaf since the day she was born. She is profoundly deaf and has bee wearing hearing aids since she was 2. Ms. Churman recently underwent a procedure to have the Esteem hearing aid implanted in her ear. This video was taken by her husband on the day the hearing aid was turned on.

I would say that the procedure was a success. 🙂

If you listen to to Ms. Churman speak, you will note that her pitch is near perfect.

I’ve been around and worked with people who are deaf and it is incredibly difficult for them to learn to speak properly. They don’t have the audio feedback we do. You have no idea of the incredible amount of work Ms. Churman did in order to be able to speak they way she does.

Now, thanks to the Esteem hearing aid, Ms. Churman can hear herself, her husband and everything else we take for granted. I wish you all the best Ms. Churman.

We now return you to your usual screams of rage. I’m sure Ms. Churman will be happy that her new hearing implant has an off switch so she won’t have to listen to me, the Angry Systems Administrator or any of our posters. 😉
