Good day all. We had a major outage this morning around 10am Eastern Time. I contacted our hosting service and it appears that a process ran away on the server we use.
The engineers at Hosting Matters attempted to do a clean reboot, but a process hung and forced them into a hard restart. Because of this, the servers file system was damaged and its internal repair system started working as soon as the server powered up. This required about an hour to run before the server could come all the way back online.
Normal service was restored around 12PM Eastern Time and no data was lost. Our main site, which does not use a Mysql database, was unaffected and continued operations until the forced shutdown and restart.
Hosting Matters apologizes for the outage and is investigating the incident. Thank you for your patience.
