We won’t apologize for being Americans

For almost the entire existence of the United States, the Europeans have been denigrating, insulting and looking down their snobby noses at us. The French have been among the most notorious in this regard.

In general, about the only time the Europeans want Americans around is when the Germans visit them and overstay their welcome…by several years. Then they want us Americans to come in and assist the Germans in vacating the premises.

Many years ago, there was a film made called the Americanization of Emily. I’ve never actually seen the film although I have heard about it. It was written by Academy Award winning screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky. This is his opinion on Europe’s contempt for America:

I would say that Mr. Chayefsky, through actor James Garner, hit the nail right on the head. Recently, with the Euro and the European economy in full meltdown, the Europeans have started their usual “It’s all America’s fault! It’s a plot!” malarkey. Europe is in the process of collapsing under the weight of it’s own stupidity. The best and brightest people have been leaving that disaster for America for over 200 years. When it finally goes under in the next few years, you know that they will come to us again demanding we help them out of their mess.

This time, the answer will be “No.”
