Barney the dinosaur at 9/11 memorial?

Good day all. I just saw this on Diplomad a few minutes ago. He has a picture of President Obama and Vice President Biden taken at the White House during the 9/11 ceremony remembering the victims of the terrorist attack.

He had a question about this picture.

At the White House ceremony in remembrance of the 9/11 attack, why did President Obama have Barney stand next to him?

That is a very good question. Why did Obama have Barney the Dinosaur standing next to him during such a somber moment? Comments are open, so please let me know your thoughts.
