Trading Sgt. Bergdahl

Or, alternatively, Obama screws up massively. Last weekend, the SCoaMF took to the Rose Garden with the parents of Sgt Bowe Bergdahl, who had been held for 5 years by the Taliban. However, within hours of Obama spiking the ball, problems arose.

It seems that Sgt. Bergdahl was not a prisoner or a hostage. It looks like he deserted his post and may have willingly joined the enemy. The Army investigated his disappearance back in 2010 and concluded that he had walked away from his post. This was after soldiers went out looking for him and suffered casualties, including fatalities. One after another, his former squadmates denounced Bergdahl as at best a deserter and at worst an outright traitor.

What made this even worse is how Der Fubar and his crowd of clowns got him back. The traded this guy for five of the worst Taliban types we had in Gitmo. These are, to quote one source, “The board of directors” for the Taliban. From what I’ve been reading, and there are way to many sources to link to, these vermin should have been fed to the sharks some time ago. Instead, Obama, who is desperate to finish losing the war in Afghanistan, wanted to get this guy back and parade him around saying “See? Aren’t I wonderful? I got this man back to his family! I’m the President, gotta love me!”

Well the first problem that came up was the press conference that SCoaMF held with Bergdahl’s parents announcing his return. Bowe Bergdahl’s father, Robert Bergdahl, aka “Pa Taliban,” came out with this remark:

“Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim” which means “In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Compassionate.”

He then tweeted this comment, since deleted:

@Abalkhi I am still working to free all Guantanamo Prisoners. God will repay the death of every Afghan child, Ameen.

So it looks like the apple didn’t fall very far from the tree. His father is a Taliban supporter.

The backlash against this trade apparently caught the King Putt’s court by surprise. The first inklings that things might not be going their way happened when Bergdahl’s former squad/platoon started going on news programs and basically saying that Bergdahl walked away. He apparently left his gear in camp when he left, and apparently a note, (Not yet verified), saying he was leaving and wanted to give up his citizenship.

After Bergdahl left, the Taliban began changing their tactics. The tactics reflected how the Army did things and is highly classified. The thinking among the troops on the scene is that Bergdahl told Taliban how to defeat the tactics we were using. There was also the casualties. At least 6 soldiers were killed trying to find and rescue Bergdahl before the Pentagon decided he had deserted and wasn’t worth the price. Then we have the problem of notifying Congress. Obama is required by law, a law he signed, to inform congress 30 days before releasing any prisoners from Guantanamo. Congress found out just like the rest of us, during Il Douche’s press conference. To say Congress was angry would be an understatement. The anger crossed party lines, which is highly unusual with regards to Der Fubar. In fact, the only member of congress that is supporting Obama is, drum roll please…Senate Majority Leader Dingy Harry Greed! According to the Business Insider:

Majority Leader Harry Reid gave a passionate, lengthy statement on the floor of the U.S. Senate Tuesday defending President Barack Obama’s widely-criticized decision to trade captured Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five Taliban prisoners held in Guantanamo Bay.

“Unfortunately, opponents of President Obama have seized upon the release of an American prisoner of war, using what should be a moment of unity and celebration for our nation, as a chance to play political games. The safe return of an American soldier should not be used to score political points,” Reid declared, according to prepared remarks released by his office.

Reid went on to accuse several Republicans of criticizing the Bergdahl swap deal for partisan reasons.

“It’s clear they’re worried his release could be seen as a victory for President Obama,” Reid said of some of his Republican colleagues, referring to Senators Mitch McConnell, Pat Toomey, and James Inhofe by name. “Let me put that notion to rest – it’s not a victory for President Obama. It’s a victory for our soldiers, their families, and the United States of America. No member of the armed forces should be left behind, and President Obama saw to that.”

Dingy Harry is pretty much the ONLY Democrat who is still supporting this disaster. Even that senile moonbat, Nancy Pelosi has kept her normally moving mouth shut. Democrats initially supported this until the details came out, and now they are running away from Obama as fast as their little feet can carry them. They’re fleeing this nightmare faster then they have when dealing with Obamacare during the election season.

And what were some of these details? Apparently the White House bypassed the military and intelligence services when they made this deal. According to Fox News:

The Obama administration largely bypassed the intelligence community to green-light the risky swap of five Taliban leaders for American Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, officials tell Fox News, as new details emerge about concerns with the deal at the highest levels of President Obama’s team. A military intelligence source also confirmed to Fox News that a second option — involving the payment of a cash ransom for Bergdahl’s freedom — was pursued as late as December 2013.

The source said the goal was to reach out to Pakistan leadership with direct ties to the Taliban, and float the possibility of trading cash, instead of prisoners, for Bergdahl. That option, though, was put “on hold” in December when it was made clear the administration intended to pursue a prisoner swap.

Do you know who else opposed this trade? Hillary Clinton. According to the Washington Post:

During the same debate, officials were considering the emerging prisoner-exchange proposal. White House advisers believed that a successful exchange would not only free Bergdahl but would also encourage moderate Taliban members to take an Afghan-led reconciliation process seriously.

But Panetta and other officials — including Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper Jr. — opposed the terms of the proposed prisoner exchange, according to the official.

Clinton replied in writing to the written concerns of lawmakers in between the various meetings, according to House aides. The contents of her responses were deemed classified and were not available for review by reporters, the aides said Tuesday. Clinton, now considering a run for president in 2016, on Tuesday publicly endorsed the deal to free Bergdahl that the official said she once privately opposed.

Wanna bet she walks that endorsement back, especially if she gets a summons to appear before congress on this matter? She needs this like she needs yet another hole in the head after Benghazi, Syria, Russia, Iran, the Arab Spring and all the other disasters she had her paws in.

The Obama regime is desperate to bury all the bad news and in typical PLFD manner, has accused the Republicans of “Swift boating” Bergdahl. In case you don’t recall, the definition of Swift Boating is “Telling the truth about someone’s military record,” and was introduced by the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth when the lambasted John Kerry when he was running for President. The former swift boat crews basically sank Kerry’s campaign. According to the Washington Times:

NBC’s chief White House correspondent, Chuck Todd, said Wednesday the Obama administration’s aides are accusing Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s fellow platoon members and other veterans of giving the the former captive the “swift boat” treatment.

When asked by “Today” host Matt Lauer if the White House truly thought that swapping five senior Taliban commanders for Sgt. Bergdahl would be “a celebratory moment,” Mr. Todd revealed what aides had told him off-camera.

“They did not expect this backlash on Bergdahl himself. I’ve had a few aides describe it to me as ‘we didn’t know that they were going to swift boat Bergdahl‘ — and Matt, of course, that’s a reference to that political fight back in 2004 over John Kerry’s military service which became so controversial in that campaign. So there’s some fighting words there,” Mr. Todd said.

The stories about this go on and on. I don’t know if Bergdahl is a deserter or a traitor. That is for a full and impartial investigation to determine. However, what Obama and his staffers did in releasing those five Taliban terrorists will come back to bite us. There have been many people asking why Obama chose this moment to make the deal. One reason was to try and take the attention away from the Veterans Administration scandal. I don’t think they bothered to actually find out why the Pentagon stopped looking for Bergdahl. In fact I’ve seen a few reports that they knew exactly where he was but since he was a deserter, he wasn’t worth the risk to the lives of the soldiers needed to get him out. Now, they will need to determine if he did desert his post, and if he willing aided the enemy in time of war. If they do show he deserted, then he could face a firing squad, although the last time we shot a deserter was in 1945 when the Army executed Private Eddie Slovik ((Edward Donald Slovik)). If he actually aided the Taliban and it cost the lives of American soldiers, then he should be executed. We shall have to wait for the investigation and any hearings to be concluded of course.

As to Obama? Once again, he has lived down to his nickname, one of many, of being a Stuttering Clusterfuck of a Miserable Failure. Will this be the straw that breaks the camels back and lead to impeachment hearings. I doubt it. That would require an honest congress and with Dingy Harry Greed running things in the Senate, a bill of impeachment sent over from the house will be circular filed.
