So, The Interview was released after all

Good day all. Sony finally caved in to paying customers and released the controversial movie, The Interview. It was far to late to put it in the major theater chains, and that pack of pansy’s still won’t show it.

The Interview was, instead, released to Video On Demand services such as Google Play, YouTube, Xbox and the Sony sites, although I understand it was refused by the Apple service. It was also released to a handful of independent theaters as well.

The reviews for the movie have not been good. (Be advised that I have not and have no plans to see it) One review I saw, on Cnet by Anthony Domanico, was really bad. Other items I’ve seen on our Faceplant page say that this movie is really not worth the time or money to see it. Everything I’ve read regarding this movie, if it had opened as scheduled, tell me this would have been a complete bomb.

nuclear blast

What appears to have occurred, is that the North Korean leader, Kim Jung-DUH has managed to discover the true meaning of the “Streisand Effect.” If his hackers had not gone after this really bad movie, it would have died away from poor reviews and word of mouth. Instead, the Korean Runt of the North, has managed to provide Sony with millions in free advertising. They might actually recoup their investment, even with the reduced availability.

The other big loser in all this is Sony of course. First, they were hacked, again, and the world has seen just how bad their network security really is. That is going to cost them big time since so much personal information was stolen, and it’s looking like they didn’t even take the basic precautions to secure their systems.

holes

Then they caved in to North Korean threats, (Along with the major theater chains. I hope their investors take them to task about this), and finally, they caved again to political pressures from His Royal Eminence, King Putt the Last. With all this, there are starting to be questions regarding the eventual collapse of Sony, at least the entertainment division, in the next couple of years. We shall see. Now if you will excuse me, I’m going to watch the copy of Godzilla I received for Christmas. 🙂
