Maryland removes parallel parking from driving test

Good day all. Once again, the progressive’s answer to a difficult test is to remove the question, not actually teach the answer or solution.

This time, they have removed parallel parking from the driving test. Here are some of the details from Fox News:

Maryland has become the most recent state to drop the parallel-parking requirement from its road test, sparking debate about whether the next generation of motorists will be adequately prepared to safely navigate streets.

I had to learn how to parallel park when I learned to drive. So did Mrs. Webmaster. In fact you still have to know how to parallel park in New Hampshire. It’s not just a test requirement, it’s also a necessity in the Northeast. You can’t count on a nice straight in parking lot around here.

Buel Young, a Maryland Motor Vehicles Administration spokesman, said the requirement was officially removed May 19 after state officials had determined the maneuvers and skills required to parallel park — which include backing up, using mirrors and depth perception — were already being evaluated in other parts of the test.

Translation: To many people taking the test were crushing the road cones and failing. This decision, along with similar ones in other mostly lefty areas, isn’t sitting to well with certain groups.

“If you’re driving in a major city, you have to know how to parallel park,” AAA Mid-Atlantic group spokesman John Townsend said Saturday, pointing out that the District has 17,000 metered, curb-side parking spots. “We don’t all go to the shopping mall.”

Townsend also said the parking part of the tryout most “terrified” him and countless other teens, which made everybody practice intensely. And it was a great test of eye-hand coordination, he argued.

It also scared Mrs. Webmaster who wasn’t a teen when she learned how to drive. She blew her parking test. (Reverse parking, not parallel. She aced that one) Did she whine and complain that the test was to hard? No she did not. We got into the Anger Central Primary transport of the time, drove to an empty lot and she practiced over and over until she got it right.

Private driving coaches and others have speculated that Maryland ended the parking requirement because too many teens were flunking that part, which resulted in long waits to take the test because so many applicants were reapplying.

Mrs. Webmaster will kill me if she see’s this, but she flunked her road test three times before finally passing it. I still remember her bouncing out of our vehicle and practically doing handsprings across the DMV parking lot after she passed the test on her forth try.

Young says parallel parking will continue to be a teaching requirement in state-controlled driver’s education courses in Maryland.

Well that’s something. Frankly, I’m glad I no longer have to go to Baltimore for work related reasons. Riots, Crime and now Incompetent parking.

In closing, Mrs. Webmaster is currently in China visiting family. Her car is currently at the body and fender shop. Just before she left, she was rear ended, in a parking lot, by a kid with a learners permit trying to park his mother’s car.
