How about some Superbowl Stew?

Good day all, this is the Angry Systems administrator. I’ve been very quiet the last month or so, and thought it was time to come in from the cold. Today is the Superbowl, and it will be the 50th one played.

Since the team I prefer didn’t win a spot, I’m not going to talk about the slimy good for nothing teams that will be attending. Instead, I’m going to do something rather different. I’m going to pass along a recipe for a nice, easy to make beef stew.

I found the original recipe on allrecipes.com. I’ve made it in the past and it is very good. Here are the requirements for ingredients.

  1. 2 pounds of beef stew meat, fat trimmed off and cut into 1 inch cubes.
  2. 1 onion, chopped.
  3. 1 8 ounce can of tomato sauce.
  4. 1 cup of carrots, chopped
  5. 1 cup cherry tomatoes
  6. 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms
  7. 1 cup of water
  8. 1 cup of dry red wine
  9. 2 beef bouillon cubes
  10. 1 package of dry onion soup. (About 1 ounce)
  11. 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary
  12. 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  13. 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  14. 3 tablespoons of water.
  15. Salt
  16. pepper

Put the meat into a slow cooker/crockpot. Put in the carrots, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions bouillon cubes, onion soup, rosemary, dash of salt and black pepper to taste and garlic powder. Add 1 cup of wine and one cup of water.

In a separate bowl, mix the 3 tablespoons of water and two tablespoons of cornstarch together and then pour the mix into the crockpot.

Gently stir everything together.

Cover the crockpot and set on high, and cook for 4 hours.

Now the original recipe on All Recipes is called “Hearty Slow Cooked Beef Stew and is somewhat different. That one doesn’t have mushrooms or tomatoes and does have a 15 ounce can of new potatoes, drained. (You can also peel and cube fresh potatoes) Since I’m putting this on mashed potatoes, adding them to the stew is not needed. This should feed about 6 people or so.

I hope you find it as tasty as I do.

Thank you
