Jeremy Corbyn to Labour Party: Get Stuffed!

Good day all. The fallout from the Brexit vote continues. Prime Minister David Cameron has already announced his resignation, to take place in October. On the other side of the aisle, the head of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, lost a party No Confidence vote.

His reaction to that loss? Basically, it’s “Get Stuffed! I’m not leaving.” The vote has no force of law or regulation within the Labour party, but it really doens’t make Corbyn look all that great. Here are the details on all this from Fox News:

Britain’s embattled Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said Tuesday he would not resign despite a vote of no confidence from his party’s lawmakers. The vote is non-binding. Corbin said he would not “betray” his supporters by resigning.

I’m not up on the status of the Labour Party in Great Britain, so I don’t know who Corbyn’s actual supporters are. I’ll leave that to others who are more knowledgeable than I. As to why he is being asked to step down? It’s for the same reason Cameron is packing up his office. Corbyn backed the “Remain” side of the Brexit vote.

The main opposition party’s lawmakers earlier passed an overwhelming vote of no confidence and many called for him to step down as party leader. He has been criticized severely for what was seen as a his weak performance during the European Union referendum campaign, which ended with Britain voting to leave the EU.

Some 40 members of Corbyn’s inner circle have resigned in recent days. Corbyn’s supporters say he will remain leader because of his strong standing with the party’s grass roots.

Funny, I thought the Brexit vote pretty much crossed party lines and in a big way. Wouldn’t that include those “Grass roots” Corbyn is counting on?

The Labor Party backed staying in the bloc but many said Corbyn campaigned poorly. He may now face a formal leadership contest. British media reported 172 lawmakers voted against Corbyn while 40 voted in his favor.

Yeah, that’s a pretty big margin. As I understand it, in Great Britain, the party structure is superior to the individual. This is one of the reasons Cameron is stepping down. He backed Remain and lost big. Because of this, his party can say that his judgment in important matters is questionable. Ergo, out the door he goes. Corbyn seems to not understand this.

“I was democratically elected leader of our party for a new kind of politics by 60 percent of Labour members and supporters, and I will not betray them by resigning,” Corbyn responded. “Today’s vote by MPs has no constitutional legitimacy.”

Umm, as I understand it this has nothing whatsoever to do with the British nation and everything to do with internal politics of the Labour Party. So it doesn’t matter if it’s “Constitutional” or not. The governing authority here are the rules of the Labour Party. Right now, the rules state that this vote was nonbinding. I suspect the next one, when they have some sort of formal party meeting, won’t be. Then it will be “Bubye Jeremy! Don’t let the door knob hit you in the arse on your way out!

One Response to Jeremy Corbyn to Labour Party: Get Stuffed!

  1. VonZorch Imperial Reseacher says:

I don’t know the details either but from what I get from lurking around a brit libertarian site, Labour is the UK’s Free Shit Army.
Their Conservative Party is slightly to the right of the Democrats here but not by much and Labour just misses being outright communists.
