Good day all. There seems to be a crime wave this week involving beer. Yesterday I wrote about a judge who offered a police officer beer as a bribe, and now we have another pair of idiots who stole $90K worth and tried to sell it online.
According to Fox News:
Police say about $90,000 worth of beer stolen from a Central Texas distributor has been recovered from a farm where two men were arrested on alcohol violations.
Alcohol violations? Is that it? What about things like grand theft beer and receiving stolen property? How about a nice conspiracy charge for good measure?
Austin police Sgt. Maurice Forshee said Thursday that more arrests are expected in a ring allegedly trying to sell stolen beer online.
Ahh! That might be the reason for the charges to date. They have more morons to catch. So how did the Texas Police find these “Evil Geniuses”?
An Austin distributor on Sept. 30 reported the alcohol theft. Forshee says an undercover operation led to a site near Dale, 30 miles southeast of Austin, where officers from several agencies carried out a raid Wednesday.
Undercover? I wonder how that worked? Did someone in a trench coat happen upon an off duty cop in a bar somewhere and say “Psst! Hey buddy, wanna buy some cheap beer? I only got good stuff here.”?
Forshee says officers seized more than $100,000, about 20 firearms and 719 12-packs of beer. Two brothers were arrested on misdemeanor charges of distributing alcohol without a license.
The guns? That sounds about right for an average Texan family. Might actually be a bit on the low side. The cash? For the amount of beer these losers stole, that doesn’t sound like much. And 719 12-packs? That’s good for one Superbowl party where I live. A small Superbowl party.
Forshee says most of the beer reported stolen last month was recovered during Wednesday’s raid.
I find that interesting. I doubt the beer was being kept in any sort of cooler. Beer out in the sun doesn’t last that long. I also noted that they don’t mention the brand or brands. I have a sneaking suspicion that they might have grabbed nothing but Budweiser, which is to beer as Hillary Clinton is to honesty and trustworthiness.
I’m still wondering about just charging them with misdemeanors. Granted, if this was Budweiser or one of the other high volume, low taste beers, it isn’t worth much. (So saith the Anger Central craft beer snob) I suspect most of that swill will be found to be unpalatable and unsalable. Hmm, that could be why the minimal charges. The local enforcers of the law think these two idiots might have done a public service?
